I know all that about spiders too, Newquay, and it doesn't help, does it? I am very brave (sometimes) now that I have a spider pot. It used to be a container for mixed peel, and it is about 2.5 inches high and the same in diameter. The important thing though, is that it is clear plastic. If I put it over a spider and slide a bit of thin card underneath, I can lift the whole lot into the garden and deposit the spider in a flower bed, and be quite sure that it isn't still lurking in the pot. I feel very proud of myself when I do that instead of always calling on DH. However, we were away recently staying in a hotel, and there was an enormous spider waiting for me when I was about to get out of the shower, and I was very glad of his help!
Anyway, if you like mixed peel or glacé cherries, give the container a try, and good luck!
