Hotel showers

Auntiflo I thought the same with the hotel we stayed in in July. Beautiful bathroom, spacious walk in shower (no door) but the tray seemed to be so shallow that, depending on how long you stayed under (and DH takes ages), water seemed to find its way over the edge onto the mat. We are thinking of converting our bathroom to a walk in shower and it has given me food for thought regarding the shower tray. Or maybe I should ban DH if we do go ahead. I don't linger in the shower.

I spend ages in our walk in shower and the only time we had any overspill was when the drain away needed cleaning, our tray is barely has a half inch lip. The drain should be sufficient to take the amount of water coming out of the shower if it doesn't drain quick enough it could be because the drain is slightly blocked and needs a good clean. Hair and soap residue will soon block it if it doesn't get cleaned regularly.
I shove half a packet of soda crystals and very hot water down it once a month and we keep on top of it ever blocking.

We never get any problem either with overflow - is the shower tray a small area ?

My problem with hotel showers is always setting the temperature. You always seem to have to stand under either a red hot or freezing cold shower while you fiddle with the controls.

I find hotel showers a real problem because I can't see without my glasses, I usually ask DH to go first so he can set the temperature but he likes water a lot hotter than I do. My shower at home is very large but the shower tray is very shallow, seems to be the norm now.

We had our bathroom converted to a wet room, and the only time the shower water goes everywhere is when hubby uses it. The rest of the time it stays in one quarter of the bathroom.

What annoys me about hotel showers.is that they often mist up the mirror. Then even when delisted the mirror is usually useless for makeup, with poor lighting.

I could write a book about them. I used to have to travel to attend conferences and training updates a lot before I retired. Powerful ones that could knock you off your feet, ones with barely a dribble, too hot, too cold, nothing in between, trying to change from bath to shower setting....and all this fiddling and faffing was obviously in the nuddy

Just stayed in DD1's new house. The ensuite shower was just a press button with the water set at a perfect temperature so no fiddling. BUT the water pressure was so strong that it shot out of the folding door as I was getting in! Cue mopping up and having to dry self with soggy towel!

Both my showers are large with nice deep trays.

Right, well Welshwife, I measured, with my bare feet, the length of said shower tray. It is 5 and a bit long by 3 and a bit wide. ( my shoe size is 39 (61/2), and it is very shallow. I don't know if the drain is blocked, looks OK at a quick glance, but I didn't bring my Marigolds along, so shan't be investigating that area. By the way, the shower itself is excellent, set temp, and push blue button. It has a huge shower head, the size of a large dinner plate. Perhaps it's too big, but it does give you a lovely drenching. Isn't it great how we can go on about nothing in particular. ??. I did start to post this yesterday, but lost it.

AuntiefloI would just tell the reception that the shower appears to be overflowing and suggest they check the drain.. I wouldn't be rummaging around there either unless it were my own.

Our current shower tray is 90x90 cm but a previous one we had was 80x120 and that was a really lovely size. Also I suppose it depends how long you are under the water - I do tend to be very quick. I agree about many hotel showers being difficult to regulate - I am also always worried that there will be a surge of people finishing showering and my water will suddenly increase in temp. Our controls have a separate temp one to the on/off control - we both like the same temp so rarely alter the temp side. I love the big head with plenty of water coming down - DS has an electric one and the power and shower head are just not large or powerful enough.as a precaution I think I shall pack rubber gloves and soda crystals in my wash bag in future as a precaution!

I also have a problem with seeing as i have to keep my eyes shut once in there due to contact lenses but that's always assuming I've managed to turn them on. There are so many combinations of taps and settings you need a degree to work them out! At home I turn the shower on, wait until it's hot enough then get in - the water doesn't come out the door and doesn't come over the top of the tray. Last weekend I was in a hotel and although the door kept the water inside the shower it had side jets as well as the overhead one - there was no way to turn it on without being in it and nowhere to get away from the cold water as it heated up. At least these days they do seem to be hot and have pressure - in years gone by you needed to run around under the water to get wet

Tanith, I spoke to the receptionist. Yes, they know about the shower. The bathroom looks fairly newly renovated, and the shower tray is much too shallow. So we have extra bath mats to mop up. Mind you the lovely big shower head was so welcome this afternoon when we got back from an outing and the rain threw itself at us sideways with great gusto.

A shame they didn't warn you and supply extra mats before you used it. Glad they have at least acknowledged the fact its faulty Auntieflo.
