What is the point of posting you are no longer posting? Surely you just stop.? Unless you want a reaction
Adult offspring harbouring resentments
Just wanted to say that I will no longer be posting on these forums as I have decided they are not for me, for one reason or another.
So, I'm not doing a flounce, lol, just in case anyone actually notices.
I've decided I need to find somewhere else which is maybe more interactive. Maybe something a bit smaller and more local?
So, I wish you and the site all the best.

Well, I've answered it now.

I believe I made some comment about having the b*lls to face him down?
But why NannaandG would you care whether anyone 'likes' your post or not. If you've got something you feel needs saying, then say it. Sod whether anyone likes it or not. (GNHQ forum rules applying of course)
When did Princess Anne visit Putin?!!!
How come I missed that? Was I on hol?
Link to thread please DB?
DB I read your post on Princess Anne and Putin and whilst not a royalist agree that she is a very sensible and capable woman, but did think that it could be a comment that would attract a certain amount of heat. At the moment I am on GN a lot because I have broken my right wrist. I have to say there are a lot of positives on GN, humour, experience, practical advice but I was reading a thread last night that had descended into name calling, but the positive was a very brief and sensible post from a GN which I read this morning tasking the person with their behaviour and it has restored my faith (wished I could be that succinct as that GN).
Oh mildred I sometimes think I should change my username to lead balloon or kiss of death!
My thread about Princess Anne visiting President Putin got not a single post and I regularly find after my pearls of wisdom, everybody has moved on to something much more interesting.
Don't take it personally
I disagree that a like button could cause cliques. It works perfectly well on FB. It's just an indicator of agreement or support .
peaceatlast and Mildred, I think the experience of not being replied to individually is across the board, exactly as someone said, because there are so many people posting. It is impossible to reply to everyone and it isn't meant personally. If you go into the 'Soop's kitchen' thread, you will find that Soop replies personally to everyone, bless her. Don't know how she manages the keep track.
Many a time I have been the last to post on a thread, just because everyone has said all they want to. Nothing unpleasant is meant by it, I don't take it like that anyway.
Re: cliques, I don't see myself as part of a clique just the community as a whole. You can do 1:1 contact by PM if you want that. Personally, I have learnt a lot from a range of replies to various situations and problems without getting too involved.
Sad that you feel GN isn't for you, but hope you find what you need in some other form of social media.
lol, Riverwalk.
It's a scientific fact that anyone who announces they're leaving always comes back!
I don't think a 'like' button would be a good idea. It would so encourage cliqueiness.
When is a flounce not a flounce?
I don't think you need to read whole threads to comment. Why not just reply to the OP? We are not sheep, just following on to the one in front.
I think you need to persevere to get the best out of Gransnet. Everyone gets 'ignored' sometimes. You do not "end a thread". It was most likely coming to an end anyway
You don't need to de-register to not post btw. Best not to really. You might change your mind.
I have realised my previous post looks as if I mean you should go to mumsnet. What I actually meant was, and didnt say properly, was that you could start a thread or threads like that on gransnet.
I agree that it's not a matter of being ignored. Occasionally somebody picks up on your post and comments, more often than not noone does. As Lona says, people just skim through, reading first and last posts and an odd one that takes their fancy. You'll often find that someone will post a viewpoint that you gave way back on a previous page and people will suddenly pile in to agree. It's not personal, just like a conversation with any big group in real life, really
. Perhaps a like button would help - some members have called for them in the past - but there again, perhaps not, if you never got a "like"
. I've never thought that Gransnet was cliquey. Some members just post more than others, that's all.
Its surely not all or nothing? No reason to leave with a flourish. There are other forums I'm a member of whose interest waxes and wanes for me. Sometimes interesting threads get my attention and sometimes I'm too busy to spend time on them. I don't cut off membership though.
I don't think you should assume you're being ignored if no one posts. I often read a thread but having nothing to bring to the table so don't comment. Also threads do run their course. Maybe you've just been unlucky in being the last poster on that thread ? Or maybe your response was so spot on that no more need be said ?
I think a lot of us have felt ignored at some point on here, but it's not personal, there are just a lot of posters.
Trouble is that so many members don't read the threads, they only read the OP and perhaps the last post. Consequently, they have no idea what has already been said.
I pick my threads carefully too Mildred
On mumsnet, there are threads where those that feel ignored, chat and thus they are not ignored.
peaceatlast and Mildred, I dont know if that is anything you might be interested in?
Obviously others can post there as well.
I understand how you feel peaceatlast I feel the same. I also have noticed that my posts either are ignored or end a thread too. Sometimes on the threads I think people are uninterested in another point of view, just in putting their own dogmatic opinion across and shouting anyone down who disagrees with them. I think some posters do not read the threads properly or jump to conclusions. There are some very dogmatic posters on here. But I have found some very kind funny people on her so I just pick my threads very carefully.
BlueBelle, that was a bad experience for you.
I suppose, as with many forums, they can feel quite cliquey. I also think I have a great knack of being ignored, lol, so can end up wondering whether I actually bring anything to the equation- I also have a knack of bringing threads to an end. So, time for a break, methinks.
Thanks. I am active on Streetlife and have had a few meets successfully. Truth is I am really pushed for time these days and have to cut down on computer time and concentrate on life around me.
Just a caution about Streetlife i enjoyed it for about a year then a man started talking about being newly widowed and was lonely there were quite a few helpful posts for him but then he publicly asked me out for a coffee I was very aware of his loneliness and declined very very kindly I then got 'followed' round the site everywhere i posted, by him and he became quite a bully, when others started joining him I left. I think because it s very local it can be really good but there can be a downside I may rejoin its a couple of years ago and i hope that was just a bad experience
I was wondering if there was any particular reason you felt this site wasnt right for you ? Sometimes it takes time to find your way in for want of putting it a better way
I'm on a very active local FB group in my area, for mums and grans, plus we often have dads popping in.
Good luck and goodbye
