Being totally boring – I once talked to absentdaughter (in another context) about the heart being like a huge house full of rooms. Some rooms were occupied – Mum's, Dad's, Grandma's, absendaughter's etc. When those people who were no longer with us, the room became empty and no one else could go in there except all of us who loved them. Some rooms had never been used and, if we were lucky, someone came to live there in one of them. It never made anyone else's room smaller; it just opened another door.
I guess that that there still is a room occupied, but dusty, by my first love. It doesn't make the rooms smaller for those I loved before him or after him – but he still has his room.
That probably bores anyone who is reading this but has rather surprised me!
