Soop, I can understand your removal men`s confusion over Tarbert/Tarbet, there are several in Scotland of various spellings, aren`t there? The flight from Campbeltown would be a great idea, saving all that long journey.
David went into the hospice tonight. We arrived at the hospital at lunchtime, to be told that a room was available for him at the Butterfly hospice, and that he would be transferred during the afternoon. Then we were given 4.30 for the time, then at 4.50 we were told that the transport would be delayed and it would be 6.15. In the end they came for him at just after 6.30pm. I didn`t get home till 10.30pm, after being out for 10 hours, and starving hungry! I`m still not sure if he`s taken the move in just yet, but it`s a lovely place, only 6 patients at a time, each in their own ensuite room with TV, and best of all, we can take Mia in to see him, animals are allowed. We haven`t told him, we`re just going to turn up with her.
N&G, where were you in your lovely cabin? It looks very peaceful.

soop Do you ever travel on the ferry from Campbeltown to Ardrossan? We are thinking of doing a trip next year in our campervan, travelling through Galloway across to Kintyre then further north. (The route is all a bit vague at the moment.)
The flight sounds a good option for you compared with the long car journey to Glasgow.

soop I agree with Tizliz, you should book asap. If it is a 4 hour drive, think of petrol used, time and money spent at motorway cafes. No contest.

I would not have liked to have met those transporters on the road, luckily it is October and not mid January.

Wobblybits A friend has a battery operated "smart-arse" bin. You only have to pass by and the lid opens. After a month, she decided that it was too clever by half and removed the batteries.

Talking of removal men. During our house build, the furniture was stored in Cornwall. The Cornish removal man said that he knew where Tarbert was. When the time came for him and his crew to motor all the way to Scotland, we felt confident that he knew in which direction he was heading. Very late in the afternoon he phoned and said...I can't find you. The reason why, was because he was in Tarbet, not too distant from Glasgow. He had therefore another two, gruelling hours drive ahead of him. He was a lovely chap. Arrived with a smile on his face.

Our granddaughter who is to be married in Amsterdam next year, phoned to tell us that to book the flight right now would be a good idea. We're toying with the idea of flying from Campbeltown airport to Glasgow. It's a twenty five minute flight! By road, almost 4 hours. Naturally, it's costly. I'm trying to convince MacSporran that we should look upon the three day event as a special treat. Special treats at "our age" are well deserved. He's mulling things over. Common sense will prevail - eventually.

Dear number It is a fact that you would not be able to cope with David and a disabled daughter without 24 hour specialist care. It really isn't surprising that David is confused. The hospital environment can be chaotic. The peaceful atmosphere in the hospice will be very much better for him...and, in turn, you. Wishing you peace of mind.

When our neighbours were moving house from a couple of miles away they decided to employ the services of 'a man with a van'. They wanted to bring their greenhouse with them so he told them to remove the glass ready for the move. Imagine our amazement when the van drove down our street with the entire greenhouse frame strapped to the roof!

It it's not too late charleygirl we got a very reasonably priced bin from Argos three years ago, not a mark on it other than the dent where Mr C dropped a torch on it .

Thinking of you and your David number, can understand you wishing you could manage at home, but of course it's not possible. My Dad was a hospice patient, the staff so kind and gentle with us as well as him, it is the next best thing to home and so different to a hospital environment.

bags, now I know why I couldn't get through to Vodafone this morning! I'm steaming, they have messed up my account for three months now, all the very sweet apologies in the world aren't fixing it. Had some costs reduced but it won't be enough to keep me with them. I've needed to eat the chocolate muffin intended for the grandchildren. Not good for them anyway . Even that hasn't calmed me.

My kitchen bin is a cardboard box, one of the ones we used when we moved up here from Ox. So it's ten years old and still going strong. We line it with black bin bags. Kitchen bin lids always seem to get icky and I like to be able to chuck stuff into an open box. Sometimes I look at bins in shops but so far nothing has tempted me. Brabantia just makes me laugh though our bread bin is that make.

Lona I have a smallish stainless steel bin already but one of my idiot cleaners used it to stand on and amazingly it was not made for that purpose. I have had it well over 15 years until that girl ruined it. I only have a Tesco Express near me,I will try the others as mentioned if I could tear myself away from this machine.

I could do with a LARGE doughnut right now. Forty-seven minutes on the phone to
vodafone to sort something out; 4 people; wrong department three times. The young lady I finally got (who was excellent, just wish it hadn't taken twenty minutes to get to her!) has knocked off the up-front charge on my new phone and the postage for its delivery.
Just got an email from Vodafone thanking me for my new address. That'd be the one we've had for ten years.

And breathe.

Meanwhile bread's made. Washing-machine has finished.

And I'm eating cake for my second breakfast.

nandg Your forest holiday looked like great fun - especially the jacuzzi! We spent Christmas in one of their lodges a couple of years ago and sat in the jacuzzi with the snow falling -just on the bits sticking up out of the warm water, drinking champagne.

Charley I bought a tall stainless? steel bin from Tesco for my new kitchen (3 months) and it's already covered in little rust spots! My kitchen isn't damp. Cost £20. Just saying

Tizliz and Wobblybits I am going to visit Homebase and Sainsburys today and see if I can find one which does not need me taking out a mortgage. I have looked on line but I ma not sure of size, I would prefer to see it for myself and then I will know for sure. Also I will not have to hang around for a day for it to be delivered at great cost.

number there is no way that you could cope with David being at home- you would get little sleep if he needs care during the night. You would also be on call when the nursing staff were not there during the day. Please do not beat yourself up about it as you would have got little if no rest.
