At what age did you become a grandparent?

39 for first dgd, then 42 for dgs and 47 for dgd2. They are now 9, 6 and 1. Still working full time but have them for weekends.

70. Eldest now 8 then 6, 4 and 3. Hate looking to the future because it's a fact of life we won't see them to adulthood. We do as much as possible with them now and hopefully create memories.

63 this april my 23 year old daughter had a baby , a great surprise to us all , still feeling a bit strange about the whole thing but it has brought to the surface loads of different feelings, my daughter is much closer now

teabagwoman. I think your post might get a bit lost on this thread. I would start a new thread, either in Chat or Ask a Gran. That way it will get noticed a you will get some more helpful responses. Perhaps I might suggest that you are more specific about what you are actually struggling with. I am sure many grans and grandads have coping techniques, so many on here say that, as much as they love caring for grandchildren, it is tiring.

My first grandchild, a boy, is due on Christmas Eve. Bad timing!!. am 65 and will be travelling to Australia to join my daughter (why does she have to live so far away) and have lots of cuddles with my grandson.

First when I was 46 and sixth when I was 64

I was 41 when my DGS1 was born and changed our whole life forever although I was working full time my days off and some evenings where taken up helping my DD ajust but enjoyed every minute,he is now 25 and has 4 brothers and 1 sister(aged 12-23) I also have DGD1 who is 18 and a joy we have just become this last March GGPs to baby girl from DGS2 and his partner so we baby buying once again after quite a long time but its so enjoyable.

56 my grandaughter was born 14 months ago in Canada....great aunt at 43 to twins my niece was 40..my first cousin an only child was a mum at 17 a gran at 35.....at 61 she has 17 grandchildren and has just become a great gran she had 6 children!

I was 44 when my first grandchild was born and 65 when the youngest was born now 69 I have 4 great grand children too!!

I was 58 when our first grandson was born and then 5 more came along in the next 5 years. Love it!

We also have step grandsons who are late teens now.

I found becoming a great aunt much more traumatic as I was still in my forties.

I left it late-ish to have my children and my daughter didn't have my grandson until she was 37 so I was 66 when I first became a granny. I was stepgranny from age 57 thanks to my OH.

I became a grandma at 55. I waited a long time, because I became a mum just a few weeks after my 18th birthday!

i was 50 when i became a grandmother, got two GC now just waiting on my other children to give me a few more,SOON i hope.

I was 52 when DGD1 arrived in 2011, and then my DD had my 2nd DGD2 last year when I was 56. DD is 30 and DS is 36 but DS hasn't shown any interest in having any himself - yet

You're all so young! I was 75 and had almost given up. The downside is that energy levels are not what they were.

I was a mum at nearly 18, then became a grandma at 54 (DGD was so unexpected by us, and so wonderful.) Now we have a DGD and a DGS. My DH (my younger man!) thus became a grandpa at 49 and really stepped-up to this role, never having had his "own" children. Truly, you never know what life is going to give you....

I was 45 when my first granddaughter was born. She is now 22 and we have just been to visit her and her partner in their first home. I had my own daughter at the age of 20, and I feel very lucky that we are young enough to enjoy the grandchildren as they grow up. Mind you, our youngest granddaughter is still only 5!

I was 45 and had just 10 weeks notice, my 18 year old daughter had no idea she was pregnant, no symptoms and on the pill. Fell in love with my DGS the moment he arrived in the world - I was with DD and her partner. They lived with us for 2 years before moving nearby so have had a lot to do with him and his beautiful sister who arrived 4 1/2 years later. They are now 17 and 12 and quite independent though still need us from time to time. Sadly to date my younger daughter hasn't met the right partner but she would love children, she is 34 so plenty of time yet ?

I was 37 when my first grandchild was born and loved it when people assumed she was my baby. I was 54 when my 5th and last grandchild was born. Luckily my oldest grandchild, who got married recently, has decided not to start a family just yet so I still have being a great grandmother to look forward to. How times change.

I was 58 when dgs was born, and when my last dgd was born I was 63, they are at nice ages now, growing fast, and I am just getting younger!! ha ha

I have a 3yr old DGS (from oldest DSS) and a 7 yr old DS....
They adore each other when they get together which is about once a year as we live abroad.

Thank you Diamondwhite. I am considering buying in some help but the budget is a bit tight so will try the getting up early and doing housework first. I do batch cook for the freezer but unfortunately I have to follow a rather complex special diet so everything has to be cooked from scratch but perhaps I can find ways to simplify it.

56 when DGD 1 arrived. Now, at 68, have 4 more. They are 12, 10, 9, 7, and 3 ( to 2 DD's ) we are seeing more of the 3 year old at the moment and loving her. She is a joy.
