OPERATION CANCELLED!!

You poor thing, I do hope they give you a new date very soon as it's all added stress. That's the only advantage of emergency operations, like the triple by-pass I had following a heart attack at another hospital, you really don't have time to worry then. I remember being in the ambulance between hosptals, but my only memory later is of seeing my family (including some of the grandchildren) lined up in the corridor as I was wheeled to theatre.

The feeling that you have absolutely no control over the timescales sounds stressful NanSue - try and do something enjoyable today .

Oh poor you. I really feel for you because I know how it is to get yourself all geared up for something like that, and you had your brave face on, and then "Wham" they pull the rug from under your feet. \i hope you get sorted soon, I am sure you can well do without all the stress of waiting again!!

I do have a number for admissions but if I get no joy I will try the secretary. I was given a number a while ago for the neuro nurses and was told to ring if I hd any questions but they know nothing about admissions apparently. Only medical queries.
I can honestly say this is the first time I've been overly anxious about the whole thing. It's just the not knowing. I'm not a boo hoo
type of person but......

NanSue I don't know who you will ring, but if you could try the medical secretary route. Ask for the medical secretary for your consultant or surgeon. I have always found them very helpful, even if it is just for finding out what the delay is about.

Do nag them nansue, sometimes the only way.

Oh no, yesterday I was going to type 'it will all be over before you know it.' I can imagine you felt very peeved, to say the least.

I'm just back from a longish trip away so catching up with gransnet. (not the housework...) Sorry to read your planned op was cancelled NanSue, what a B as others have said. Do you have a timescale yet? Sending very positive thoughts.

So sorry to hear that. What a disappointment, after getting yourself ready and dealing with the fear. I know that fear. Terrified of surgical procedures myself. I can still remember how I felt just before my cancer surgery and would have been so upset if it had been put off, after all that build up. I just wanted it over with so I could move forward.

I hope you are able to get another date soon.

Oh dear NanSue how annoying when you had got yourself all geared up for it! Hopefully the family will need less reassurance next time and it will happen very soon.

How awful to be all geared up for it and then cancelled. Hope it gets rescheduled asap and your able to stay calm in the meantime.

I have inherited Dupuytren Contracture. If you don't know what it is, it is quite common when one finger bends which bring the next finger down.

The first and second op was in this huge theatre where they had a radio playing.
The third one, I didn't know was happening!
As I was brought into this small room, where I was given local anesthetic in my arm. I will admit there was a curtain on one side of me, where I thought another patient was also being prepared for an op.
So I was chatting away to the nurse etc then heard them say,
'All done'
I couldn't believe it, as I thought I was still being prepared to be taken into a huge theatre room!
The poor surgeon must have found it difficult working with me chatting away on the other side of the curtain!

Nansue, please try not to be scared. I had a cranial op for an aneurysm and was terrified, but woke up after feeling fine with very little pain. I just sat up and started eating Smarties! I'll be thinking of you.

How awful. You get yourself and everyone else psyched up and then the big let down. I do hope the new date comes through soon X

That's dreadful NanSue, how upsetting. It sounds like a very bad sign for a hospital to go to the black alert this early. What will happen when the cold weather kicks in?

Oh NanSue what a bummer. After you'd psyched yourself up for it to be all done and dusted today. I had to have a tooth out this afternoon, and I was a mess (wimp!), so I can only imagine how you must have been feeling. I really hope you get another date very quickly AND that it goes ahead without mishap this time. In the meantime I hope you can put it to the back of your mind and get on with your life.

I'm sorry to hear that NanSue it's one of those events that the apprehension is almost worse the the thing itself. I expect you just want it over and done with. I hope the wait isn't too long. Keep us updated and of course off load whenever you like. Chin up. Best wishes.

How annoying for you, when you are all geared up and ready to go. It is natural to be scared but the surgeon doing the procedure will be so experienced in this type of surgery, he is doing the job he does because he wants you and others to have the best life you can. So you have to put your trust in him. He would not be doing it unless he thought it would improve your life. With that knowledge and the love and support of all those that love you it will soon be over. Let us know how you are when you feel ready, you will be in our thoughts and for good measure good luck. ?
