I had one of the tumble driers on the list and decided rather than wait, I'd take the offer of a new one. So now I have a brand new condenser tumble drier, more energy efficient than the old one, and it cost me £94 and free delivery and fitting.
We complained on FB about the length of wait for modification of Hotpoint dryer, they got straight back to us and came the following week and installed a new drum and backplate. My dryer is ten years old and is as good as new, we even got the engineer to reverse the door while he was busy.
My DiL had one of the 'Whirlpool' family of dryers which were declared dangerous as they had a habit of going on fire. When she rang the manufacturer about it, she protested against the long wait which they told her was necessary, so they offered her a replacement at cost price and she received a very good model for a mere £100. Mine is a 16-year-old Hotpoint, still working well (touch wood).
Maybe the waiting time is getting shorter. Last I heard the waiting time was well over the year. Apparently the fault lies with fluff getting in contact with heating elements. Please don't leave it on when you are not around!
