Following on from the recent "sad song" thread can we share which song instantly takes you back to "your era" and give the approximate year. For me it's 1968 and there are many (great music in the late 60s)....Everlasting Love by Love affair, Young girl by Gary Pucket and the Union Gap, The Mighty Quinn by Manfred Mann to name a few.
Go away little girl - - Bobby Vee 1962 - I was in the last year at school and fell in love with a 6th form student - used to go home and tune into Radio Luxembourg and dream of him
Oh wow! Reading all the titles above takes me back, but I think my favourites were the all the Beatles songs and Mommas and Poppas California Dreaming. Bring back flower power.
After The Beatles, I think the Hollies were my favourites. I loved Tony Hicks and their great sons - Jennifer Eccles, Bus Stop, He ain't heavy, Stop, stop, stop all the dancing.
David Whitfield...I can still remember all the words to 'I remember my September Love'. Funny how words to songs from so long ago are still in the memory banks. Lonny Donegan Cumberland Gap, also Mountain Greenery Home (most silly words) Out of Town. They were all late 50s.
Yes lemondrizzle - all of those. and Whiter Shad of Pale which wonderful Annie Lennox has done. Amen Corner If Paradise is Half as Nice. and of course ALL Beatles. What a great era the 60s was.
So many of these mentioned take me back but my own extra special is The Byrds, Mr Tambourine Man, on the back of my boyfriend's motorbike, long blonde hair flowing in the wind (pre compulsory crash helmet days) ...... aaahhhhh :-)
Pamela Pamela by Wayne Fontayne. The boys used to sing it to me at school as it was my name. Also anything by The Monkees. We skated to their songs at the ice rink when I was around fifteen.
Yes I used to record the top 20 on the radio each week, on a reel to reel tape recorder in the 60's. Then I'd play them back all week till I learned all the words. Do you remember The Singing Nun? I can still sing those words!
The song which brings tears to my eyes is Jessamine by The Casuals, someone i went out with as a young girl always played this on the jukebox and said it was our song. Sooo many years ago!!!!!
Yes Whiter Shade of Pale resonates with me as well. Also remember my daughter when she was very young singing ' Ruby don't take your gloves to town ' we didn't correct her or explain .
