It is my turn once more to set the next pub quiz and I want to put onto a CD some music or songs that relate to flowers or trees so that I can play them and have people identify them - any genre: classical, pop, folk etc.
Quiz is on 28th - I am gradually ploughing my way through the prep. Anyone got any ideas for rounds themes? I have 3 "paper" rounds: photos of everyday objecta from a close-up perspective; and limericks (with last line removed - people have to supply it - or a good substitute!); and anagrams.
Will you please stop talking about 'generations'. It makes me feel ancient. If you listened to Children's Favourites, Family Favourites and even Forces Favourites you would know so many of these songs. I feel like a lonely little petunia in an onion patch and now can't stop singing it!!
Has anybody mentioned Burl Ives with: 'The buzzin of the bees In the cigarette trees, The soda water fountain. The lemonade springs And the bluebird sings In the big Rock Candy Mountain.'
Then there's Paul McCartney's 'Little Willow'
If you want roses there's 'The Yellow Rose of Texas'
No this has to stop. Singing at 2am is not good!!!
We sang this tonight in my singing group, and needless to say, I thought of this thread when it came to singing "tree" :
"You say it's only a paper moon Sailing over a cardboard sea But it wouldn't be make believe if you believed in me Yes, its only a canvas sky Hanging over a muslin tree But it wouldn't be make-believe if you believed in me".
Just thought of a lovely song that Nana Mouskouri used to sing and will make people really have to think hard about it, and that's the White Rose of Athens. By the way, what a lovely idea to do this as a quiz.
I talk to the Trees Down at the old bull and bush Red roses for a blue lady I'll pick a rose for my rose Paper Roses A white sports coat and a pink carnation
