I am now working on the assumption that most appliances will "see me out" so I am going for the cheaper end of the range in most things. John Lewis have given me 5 years guarantee for £75 so I am assuming I am well covered.

Charleygirl Fri 13-Jan-17 16:17:49

soop you are so very wrong- Rory is not "just a cat" he is a very well loved and cared for animal who knows he has fallen extremely well on his 4 paws in your house. I did not realise that he had a painful eye- he may need to be sedated for it to be examined properly because his feral instincts will come to the fore again but the vet will be prepared. Rory was very frightened if he weed on the floor- he probably thought he was being taken away for good- they do not understand it is for their well being. With luck he will be picked up this evening and that will save the cost of B&B.

soop I am waiting for the latest research but to date there is zilch that can be done. At least it has happened in my worst eye and at present I can still drive but probably not for much longer.

Daphne as I write, I thought that it was Monday and your dishwasher was arriving in a few days but it is almost a complete week until it arrives. You will have to test it the minute it is installed. I only use two programmes on mine and recently one so if I ever need to replace it I do not need a full singing and dancing one. Ditto with my washing machine, I only use 3 programmes on it. A pre-wash is over 3 hours so amazingly I totally avoid that.

It was not particularly cold here this pm but that will change early this evening. I hope that everybody in the kitchen is warm.

soop we will be moving again at the weekend, are we ready? We must not disturb Rory.

My new motto this year (thus far! there will be more no doubt when I spot them in other people's posts on here or on Twitter) is Write with Courage. It's a polite way of saying Don't let the bastards grind you down, I reckon.

Lona Fri 13-Jan-17 15:58:56

Poor Rory! I suppose you will both be sent to Coventry when he comes home.

Charley I'm sorry to hear about your left eye, will it affect your ability to drive? I do hope not .

soop Fri 13-Jan-17 15:51:14

anno as you said...if something's worth saying...it's worth repeating as often as you like. grin

Wobbly Please don't forsake us lot. We enjoy your company. And we're all wanting to keep abreast of the hip-'op when it takes place.

ann You, my dear, are a real trooper. smile

NanaandGrampy I always enjoy reading your news. Has Grampy wormed made his way into your good books?

Clever quip, Crafting Wobbly's four cheeks glowing with warmth...what a pretty sight that would be. blush

Charleyg I'm surprised to hear that that car was, until recently, still dumped near to your home. Bloody cheek of it! You won't be worrying about it henceforth.
However, the news regarding your left eye. Is there no treatment whatsoever that could delay further deterioration?

corner Safe travels. smile

Lona Rory weed on the floor in panic. Bless him. It's possible that we shall receive a call later, telling us that he may come home. It will have been a costly exercise. Pet people know how it feels when the animal needs help. Bravo to all our Granspals who are there to support family members with raising the necessary funds for treatment. Rory may be "just a cat..." but, he's our cat and one of the family. wink

soop Fri 13-Jan-17 15:28:16

Daphne Steer clear of trouble. I do. I know where I'm able to be myself and share my time with like-minded folk. That's enough for me.

Lona Fri 13-Jan-17 15:27:39

Daphne At this rate none of us will dare to post anywhere else but this kitchen! flowers

Lona Fri 13-Jan-17 15:25:45

Oh dear soop you mustn't worry, I'm sure the vet has encountered worse. Can't MacSporran keep a firm grip on Rory?
I'm sure all will be OK xx

soop Fri 13-Jan-17 15:24:31

Lady vet and MacSporranare walking around with blankets. Rory is in a very tight corner and spitting and hissing. I cannot stay in the same room as it is upsetting me. We KNOW that it's for his own good. How does one convey the message to an animal?
At last, Rory is in a carrier. He's away with the vet to the surgery. We may be able to pick him up later. grin

soop Fri 13-Jan-17 15:15:08

Hello dear peepe. The moment I started to read your messages, I knew that us lot are on common ground.

We visited the Campbeltown vet earlier this afternoon. As a result, the lady vet is dashing around our home in an attempt to ensnare Rory...he is not co-operating. He has a sore eye and we're also wanting him to have an elderly cat MOT. Firstly. he needs to calm down. Oh dear! shock I'm feeling sick with worry.

DaphneBroon Fri 13-Jan-17 15:12:38

I have read such nice supportive things that I feel much more "at home" again, if not exactly everywhere on GN but certainly here makes up for any snitching and bitching.
Our little covering of snow has all gone, in fact I suspect our part of England gets less snow than just about anywhere sad? Or smile
The new dishwasher has been ordered and we have gone for a md-range model which also had a very welcome £130 saving from good old John Lewis. It is coming on Thursday and I can't wait!!
My Sandringham flu may have abated but the snuffles are back along with a complete absence of energy. (Wondering if cornergran has made it OK to Wales (was it?) A journey under poor weather conditions takes on a whole new aspect doesn't it? )
Ah well, I shall just have to do nothing!

Charleygirl Fri 13-Jan-17 14:59:04

There is a God around somewhere. I live in a small cul de sac and of course the folk in the next road want to park at the entrance to the extent at times we have not had bins emptied for 6 weeks as the lorries cannot get in because of congestion.

The bin men have complained so we are going to have double yellow lines at the entrance and travelling back almost to my house which is the last or first, whichever way one looks at it. We all feel that the problem will just move backwards to our properties and allocated parking spaces but at least the council is thinking about it.

The best thing is that a car dumped 3 years ago and not moved because it was on private land has been moved by one of my neighbours. He kindly has just told me about it but I know nothing!

That makes up for the news I received at Moorfields at my local yesterday. I could not see a single letter with my left eye- wonderful. Nothing can be done because it is dry Macular and I doubt if I will be on this planet when a cure is found. Anyway, onwards and upwards- that dumped car removal makes up for a lot. One down and one to go but the owner still lives here, so that will be easier.

It was not really cold when I went out early pm but that may change. Different from yesterday when it was sleet, heavy winds and bitterly cold. Spring is around the corner.

Crafting Fri 13-Jan-17 12:10:14

Stay in the kitchen wobbly, you will always feel the warmth in here (specially if you sit with your backside on the radiator blush two rosy cheeks) grin

NanaandGrampy Fri 13-Jan-17 11:52:18

Good morning all !

A light dusting of the white stuff overnight has had all 4 of my grandchildren out . Cooper thinks its Christmas !! I haven't the heart to break it to him smile

Ah I know what you mean Daphne we recently replaced our washing machine and it does all sorts of fabulous things but it also does some crazy things- a 60 degree wash is pre-set at 4 hours?????? What's that all about. So I use 2 programmes out of the 16...waste of money!

Greyduster it is when he gives me his germs that I seriously doubt the in sickness and health bit ( and I've always been a bit iffy on the whole obey thing wink)

Hope your DDs cat is feeling better Ann , your daughter will love you even more for your help !

I got so cross with that thread that I said what had been on my mind for quite a while DB . I no longer wish to read endless threads full of conspiracy theories about Jingl or anyone else. So I will be making myself scarce on those threads ( BUT I do have a cold and that makes me grouchy so.....smile

That's a shame WB for if you don't post then the slide continues.... gird up your loins and you may avoid a lamb leg bashing wink

I will not be going anywhere for the foreseeable future. We have stew on the stove...some very nice crusty bread and endless supplies of Grampy's rubbish TV. So I shall not be sharing my germs with you all.

Stay safe and warm - and don't let the buggers grind you down wink

annodomini Fri 13-Jan-17 10:55:16

The overnight snow has mostly given way to rain now, so it looks as if I will be safe to venture out to pick up prescriptions and something to eat. Woke up late(ish) and then had call from sister in NZ, so running (even) later than usual.

annodomini Fri 13-Jan-17 10:50:18

Sorry about the repetition. If something's worth saying it might as well be said three times! blush

annsixty Fri 13-Jan-17 09:36:12

Daphne I am sure that like me you have enough on your plate to need any hassle from others. I learnt that a couple of weeks ago. I am very sensitive to critism now and intend not to court any.
It is white and cold here and I am unable to venture out until my son comes later on to take me to do essential bits. I did forsee this and did a big food shop on Wednesday.
My H is being a tad awkward so I am finding jobs to do to keep us apart as long as possible. This is usually 10 mins before he comes looking for me.Oh we do have fun?.

Wobblybits Fri 13-Jan-17 09:14:33

DB, I have pretty much stopped posting on any thread that is in the slightest controversial. just not worth trying to tread carefully and not get a roasting. The written word is to easily read as the reader wishes rather than as it was intended. i'm not feeling the love in GN any longer. I don't even read many threads now.

annodomini Fri 13-Jan-17 00:12:01

A very divisive thread that is, DB. I was, if anything, far more abrasive than you. Didn't get a kicking though.

Catching up when I should be asleep and saw the thread daphne, blimey, what brought that on? Being more than a little slow I hadn't even thought about that particular posters identity. One of those occasions when Teflon shoulders are good. No, we won't do anything silly , if the forecast is as wrong for that area tomorrow as it was for today there is nothing to worry about - and we do have a snow shovel in the boot! Can always make ⛄️?

DaphneBroon Thu 12-Jan-17 22:40:27

Bless you!! It just took me by. surprise when I made a flippant harmless remark hmm
That'll larn me.

Crafting Thu 12-Jan-17 22:34:55

Who is getting at you daphne? ? Let me at em, ??. Leave daphne alone, or else - (they're not bigger than me are they ... hmm ). ?️‍♀️

DaphneBroon Thu 12-Jan-17 21:46:26

Take care cornergran you won't be helping your friend or indeed anybody if you have problems tomorrow.
Ann60 that was kind of you. Heartbreaking to feel you are unable to find the necessary for vet bills or finding it difficult. Fairy godmother!
Anyway, DB seems to be in the doghouse again over a harmless comment (or so I thought) which will larn me not to make any comments whatsoever. As mystified as kittyl and N&G I am nevertheless enjoying a kicking
Not kind, not fair and actually nothing to do with me. sad
