Little things that have made you happy today

I had a letter from my cousin in Ireland with news of a second grandson and a copy of their community calendar containing photographs of Malin Head where he lives. I was so happy to hear from him. Of all the relatives I grew up with, he is the one I have always been closest to.

Heard from my 15 year old grandson by text, he's well again and I may see him again on Sunday...

Went to a concert by the children at the tiny village school where I am governor. EVERY child was reading music and playing an instrument - how many schools can boast this? There is 20 minutes of playing each morning - ocarinas for the tinies and recorder for the older ones. Music is an integral part of their day, not an add-on for rich children. It lifted my spirits and was such a joy to see.

Had lunch at our favourite smart restaurant. Delicious, and the hotel and grounds so well decorated with logs fires and attentive staff. A lovely afternoon.

This afternoon, oldest DGS ate one of my home made mince pies and pronounced it 'not as bad as I thought it would be' oooh, praise from him, I can tell you!

My 5 year old GS was awarded 'Mathematician of the Week' award at school. He certainly doesn't get this skill from me.

Congratulations to your grandson, nankate, just wonderful for him and of course his proud nan. This one might sound odd but today's little thing was having tonight's babysittting cancelled. An evening at home, feet up, tree lights on, candles alight, glass of wine - bliss.

The news that my friend, who has been in hospital for about six weeks and had every type of scan and test plus biopsies, does not have any sign of cancer - and what they thought was a tumour at the top of her spine is not that either - she has sarcoidosis which can be treated with cortisone! I have so prayed for some good news - had it been a tumour it would have been inoperable because of the position. I still cannot quite believe it.
The French health service is so good.

Went to the GS's Assembly this morning. The 6 year old got a certificate for completing Mathletics, the 5 year old got a certificate for sitting absorbed and participating heartily through the class visit to the Pantomime and they both got certificates for 100% attendance this term. It made me smile

I must go to bed, but only after telling you that my oldest son passed his accountancy exams with 71%. Yippee. He is now (or will be when the paperwork is complete) officially a Chartered Accountant - which is a great relief because his bosses promoted him a while ago to a senior management position on the basis that he would pass the exam!

Great GA - lovely when adult children continue to do well.

Our GD and her husband, are coming for a flying visit on Tuesday. Lovely, as we won't see them at Christmas.

Nothing to compare with that achievement but my two GDs stayed overnight. The little one (knee high to a grasshopper), hands on hips and a feisty expression on her face told DH this morning in no uncertain terms

'Grandddad, I'm not a little kid any more, I'm five and a half now!'

Yesterday I had a new food called Tonka bean!! I had never heard of it before. The chef sent in one for me to look at -it was like a large coffee bean, but a delicate vanilla. So I had it to flavour an ice cream inside a meringue with passion fruit cream - divine. That made me very happy

Tonka beans are often used in perfumes too. Wish I was eating meringue and ice cream now ! Congratulations to everyone's smart children and grandchildren so lovely to hear good things

A lovely long walk beside the sea.

Spent the afternoon with my eldest Grandson and his wife we went to a garden centre to look at the Christmas decorations it was such a joy to see this young couple who have struggled with plenty of serious health and money issues finally looking so happy and carefree, I couldn't stop smiling today.

Sang carols on the quay with other members of my choir this morning. A big crowd came, including our MP AND the sun came out as we sang! Lovely occasion and a good bucket collection for the RNLI.

Tonight I am to watch the final of Strictly (come on Danny and Oti!) at DD's. I have had a happy day.
