I was talking about some decks you never see these days to DH today. One of them are those Chinese paper lanterns.

I have just bought some lovely tree decorations in a local "Handy Household shop." It's the sort of place that you stand a good chance of buying whatever you want.
I bought four of these and I am tempted by more. My tree already has some decorations like this my daughter bought years ago. They were lovely soft hand made rather podgy angels. This is my most recent haul.

We don`t have trimmings, but years ago when we decided to change to a fibre optic tree, we got rid of all our baubles except one, the only one left from our first married Christmas, 1963. When I kick the bucket, our kids will probably bin it, there`s not a lot of sentimentality in today`s young people.

I agree. There are some very beautiful and elegant ones on sale in the shops but they lack the tradition and warmth of a proper homemade selection. We have baubles and bits for the tree that the DC made when they were tiny. They are battered and were probably not very smart in the first place but they have far more meaning than matching ones that anyone else can just go and buy

They seem so sophisticated and stylish these days. The ones I remember most fondly involved silver tinsel and those sugar paper paper chain sets that you had to lick and stick yourself. The colours were all quite muted and the glue tasted awful but they looked so lovely and I still think they are better than all the high tech stuff you get these days. More thought gone into them I suppose
