My elderly mum had several minor strokes last week and is currently in hospital. Until now, I have been managing and helping her to remain at home despite her limitations of ageing, and all the issues that brings.
Had it not been for other GNs on previous threads mentioning that home support from Social Services should be put in place, I would have been less informed and less able to 'stand my ground' and insist on the necessary support being put in place before they discharge her from hospital care.
As of yesterday, she has been receiving physiotherapy, has been taken to an home assessment area within the hospital and Social Services are delivering aids to her home tomorrow.
The Occupational Therapist has arranged for carers to call every day to assist her with showering and personal care. Mum has objected to this, insisting she is a private person and doesn't like strangers in her house! Dealing with difficult parents is a nightmare but she was eventually persuaded that his was in her best interests.
Anyway, I just wanted to pop on to say a big THANK YOU! to all who have posted previously with great advice.
