He was a great writer.Read Girl On A Swing, if you are feeling brave ( very scary.)

My favourite was Maia, but Watership Down a close second. Girl on a Swing I found disturbing.

Oh dear,what a sad Christmas! The list just goes on.?

I really loved Watership Down & I remember it was the first 'real' book my elder son read. He came down the stairs in floods of tears & said- 'Oh Mum I am so sad that book had to end'. I knew just how he felt.

I started to read it to GSs at bedtime but it is hard to get through when there may be 6 weeks or so between their sleepovers- even skipping the fables. I'm hoping they will read it themselves soon.

Not bad for a story to amuse his children on a car journey.

I loved Watership Down and read it to my boys when they were growing up. We all cried. I ought to try Richard Adams' other books.

I found Girl on a Swing so unforgettably, unpleasantly, haunting that I read none of his subsequent books.
Watershipdown. A real page turner, some wonderful characters and unforgettable in the best way.

I absolutely agree with you about "Girl on a Swing" Elrel, roses, skweek to the point where I threw a perfectly good hardback in the bin! I can't remember why it so upset or disturbed me, but it coloured my opinion of Richard Adams ever after.

Unfortunately I can remember only too well!
