He has gone. Not a sound today, zilch, zero, de nada, nothing. Now I'm wondering what's happened to him, hope he's gone to the country and isn't a nice bowl of cock-a-leekie soup.

Maybe a fox? And are you sure he's not hiding under the chicken house?

You must have a poacher!

I don't think it was Katek's cockerel, he's disappeared from wherever he was in the area...

When we lived in the country we kept ducks and geese in the orchard to keep the grass short. That was until a family of foxes moved into the area! One by one all of them disappeared. To begin with, we didn't know where they were going, and in our innocence, believed that they might be getting out and heading for the river which was just a field away. Then late one evening I spotted a vixen and two cubs jogging up our lane. The next day there was one less duck.
I reckon that the missions cockerel may well have met a similar fate.

Yes Katek such is life...cock o' the walk one day, cock-a-leekie soup the next.

Reminds me of Chaucer's Nun's Priest's Tale about Chantecleer and Pertelote, which I read at school. Here's a summary:

Visting cockerel?
A few lady hens?
Duty done off to sow bird seeds in another county blush
