Our family has lots of silly sayings that have become so ingrained that we tend to forget that they are not in common use! Lots of them are from children's books eg 'that's a nice whatever, I'll have that', from Burglar Bill by the Ahlbergs.
Coming out of Tesco today alongside a tattooed, shaven headed chap who was built like a brick s**t house, the 'shoplifting' alarm thingy went off. We both stopped, the security man came over and asked if either of us had bought clothing. The large man said he had so the security guard let me go. I smiled and before I could stop myself announced that 'it wasn't me, it was 'im'. The large man looked less than amused.
I blame the Ahlbergs for that one as well.
