I wont be there but wonder if you've heard of 'Big Apple Greeters'?
We were so pleased that someone told us about this wonderful organisation as our greeter absolutely made our trip. The greeters are all volunteers and you are matched with someone who knows the sort of places you might want to go to and see. We would never have known to go to the places our one took us. He was a retired Broadway singer. We were given free subway tickets and a day of his time. All at absolutely no cost and he wouldn't even let us buy him a cup of coffee. Any grans planning a New York trip should check them out.

Yes I have heard of them but I come over once a year to visit son and family and don't really need a tour guide just a mate for when they are at work/school

Yes we booked one for our trip 20 years ago. Fantastic insight to the city. Good to know they are still around.
