Newspaper deliveries.

Or not!! I am completely discombobulated!!

Ever since we got married, DH and I have had daily newspapers delivered, initially morning and evening, latterly all papers arrived in the morning!

Yesterday nothing arrived! So, as I was in the village, I went to collect them and it looks as this service will stop, at least in our village and the shop, which is also the Post Office, looks like closing completely.

There had been shenanigans with the previous owners of the shop who are now, it seems, in America along with lots of money that wasn't theirs! The upshot is that the new shop owners can no longer access any deliveries from suppliers.

There are 3 other shops that sell papers in the village but none deliver.

What's more, the current owners have all my supply of Times vouchers. sad

Do others of you have your papers delivered?

Haven't been able to get newspapers delivered for years - I think you have been lucky for the service to have lasted so long. I would love to be able to have a paper delivered but no newsagent now offers this service

No we don't. there is one shop that delivers but with constant news on all media and instant access via internet we only have weekend papers mainly for the crossword (DH) and fashion etc. DH goes to get them from the nearby garage. I think a daily delivery must come to quite a lot per week now. We used to have to pay MIL's who was always forgetting - about £13 a week!!! 2 bottles of wine.

Yes we have the DT delivered daily by the paper shop up the road, and paid for by the subscription service. As a major employer in the town has just moved out I wonder how much longer the shop will continue in business.

No not now. I tried it years ago and used to forget to go and pay, so ended up paying several weeks at a time. I also decided the papers weren't worth reading as they were full of adverts and non-news articles and you can watch the news on TV or your laptop etc.

The main reason we like an actual newspaper is for the crosswords which we photocopy and race to finish. sad

I hate reading it on my phone, tablet of laptop - it's just not right!! grin

DH goes to collect the paper every morning, he’s an early riser and likes being up and about!
Re the Times vouchers, contact them and will sort it, by either cancelling or reissuing them.
We had an issue once when they were lost and we were refunded.

Yes we do. DH reads the DT and Times online (subscribes) but I read the DT paper copy as I don't like reading it online. Our paperboy is here without fail before 7.15am. He will definitely get a reward in his Christmas Card from us this year.

I do peep at the Daily mail online - just to keep up to date with what's going on in popular culture so I can appear "with it" to the DGDs! I also look at the local papers from our various locations over the years to see what is happening there.

We are now on the third generation (and a fourth coming up) of our paper delivery team. I get DT every day and it costs 40p per week and I live in the sticks ! Brilliant service and always here in time for breakfast. How lucky am I !

We are lucky, papers are here before 7am weekdays 8 on weekends.
We have just put up a newspaper bin on the gate post to save them opening the gate and driving up the drive.
This means we have to go and get the papers but as they half closed the gate again we had to go out and open it properly anyway.
The young man never pushed the papers through our letterbox so we had a howling gale whistling into the hall. Now it’s easier for him and less irritating for us.
A win win situation that I hope will carry on.
Kitty, the paper shop lost our Times vouchers and there was no way that the Times would replace them. So we stopped having the Times for a while then rejoined and got free membership to the NTrust for a year!? I think we won?

One lot of our Times vouchers didn't arrive a few years ago and it took loads of phone calls to sort it out, too.

We currently pay monthly and the DD has just gone so we can't have missed out on too many.

Apparently, according to our village 'Spotted' on FB, the previous people have been apprehended in USA and are being sent back. I doubt it's that easy!

It's having them delivered that I shall miss.

Or come to think of it, maybe all those people we see shopping in their pyjamas are just nipping out for the papers before they have breakfast!! grin

Stopped having papers delivered about 40 years ago I used to like hearing them plop through the letter box

We subscribe to The Times. It is delivered at 3.00 am every morning in a plastic bag. There is a special scheme for homes within the M 25. If your local shops are no longer delivering you could subscribe to the online version of The Times. I actually prefer reading it on the iPad and you get videos with some of the stories.

Newspaper deliveries are available here, but I read the paper downloaded on my tablet, so I don't even have to go downstairs to pick the paper up!
