To be honest I've picked up a bad habit

I seem to be saying' to be honest' before very ordinary statements and as I am honest why am I saying this. I am working to eradicate this. Anyone else noticed an annoying habit/cliché in themselves that needs weaning

I have 'got on', have eaten dinner

Now what?

BBbevan Sat 09-Dec-17 18:49:11

Around here everyone say ' Over by there' I think I might pick that up ?

Jalima1108 Sat 09-Dec-17 18:15:34

"Should go and get on" - but the dinner is cooking and I am having a snifter.

Jalima1108 Sat 09-Dec-17 17:21:46

'Well, I must go and get on' is one of mine

Then go and do it Jalima!

My bad habit? Saying "Yes, of course I can do/will do".

Bridgeit Thu 07-Dec-17 22:02:33

But 'no problem' ?!!

Bridgeit Thu 07-Dec-17 22:00:57

Yes definitely, now added to that I am beginning to repeat myself , so I have cunningly tried to disguise this by starting every sentence with .... I may have said this already ! It's a slippery slope from now on ladies ?

I hate, loathe and detest "not a problem". If it is used when I'm asking for something I anticipate will be tricky then that's appropriate but it seems to be a current form of punctuation. I was explaining why I couldn't do something once I said " I have very poor fine motor skills due to my medical condition ". " no problem" felt like a rather insulting response as, for me, it is a problem. Sulk!

?

Bellanonna Wed 06-Dec-17 23:20:40

I get it now. Thanks Nanny! I tend to do that too!!

Nanny27 Wed 06-Dec-17 13:19:36

Well what I meant was I use the word 'tend ' unecessarily and when I hear it come out of my mouth I want to scream. Example: I tend to shop at Tesco.
I tend to spend all my money on gin? . Bella?

I have a friend who says "It was so funny; you can ask (insert name of person who saw the hilarity)"
The fact that I don't know the person, or that I would go and find them to ask if it really was that funny.. strange saying..

catgrandma I hate all those too ! Especially transparent

thecatgrandma Tue 05-Dec-17 16:35:29

Guys. This moment in time. With the greatest respect. Being ‘transparent’. ?

winterwhite Tue 05-Dec-17 14:47:58

The unnecessary 'for me' as in 'write your name here for me'.

Smileless2012 Tue 05-Dec-17 14:34:12

'As I said to Mr. S.' (not Mr. S. of course it's just that I can't put his name on GN). But what can I replace it with?tchconfused.

Jalimatchsmilethat reminds me of an awful customer I had in my shop a few years ago. She was very rude and aggressive and said 'are you calling me a liar?' so I said 'yes'tchgrin.

Lynnabelle Tue 05-Dec-17 14:04:51

Just come back from Usa where everything is ‘awesome’.

glammanana Tue 05-Dec-17 10:50:16

No problem, also one of my pet hates if it was a problem would they tell me anyway?
I always tend to call everyone sweetheart when talking to them ie: "thanks sweetheart" when being served etc weither people think its too personal I don't care its just a term I have always used.
I can't bear the finishing of a sentence with "innit* when being interviewed on radio or tv,it seems to be popular mostly with youngsters.

Jalima1108 Tue 05-Dec-17 10:22:31

'Is it me'? confused
To which someone answered recently - Yes

hmm

Bellanonna Tue 05-Dec-17 10:10:28

confused I don’t get that Nanny

Nanny27 Tue 05-Dec-17 09:12:52

Why do I always 'tend' to say/ think/ do? It comes out of my mouth before I can stop it. Horrible saying.

rascal Tue 05-Dec-17 08:14:37

This is hilarious ? no bad habits here, well not that I know of blush

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 05-Dec-17 00:04:51

Bella I think I will concentrate on not saying 'actually' so often because I am aware of saying it. That'll do for now! tchgrin
