This was a question posed on a local radio programme last night and was fun. Here are a couple of the suggestions, cocking your little finger whilst drinking, using a china teacup.
madeupmyname I do tuck in my tea towel, in fact I secure it under my bra straps (boobs natural)!
JRM definitely posh, but annoyingly so. I much prefer it to be less obvious. I didn't know about Eddie Redmayne was posh until I saw him on Graham Norton.
And his sons sound even posher: Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher Peter Theodore Alphege Tom Wentworth Somerset Dunstan Alfred Wulfric Leyson Pius Anselm Charles Fitzwilliam
Me?? Posh?? I was considered so as I had my parents' southern accent at school in the north-east. It didn't take too long to fit in & when yelling the name of my best friend up the lane - "His name's not Tawny like an owl, his name is Tony!"- was my mother's exasperated cry.
My GN moniker links to where I live & the nickname of a football team. Common as muck me!
NotAGran555 People do seem to assume some places equal posh.
We went to view a house recently. A modest house in a non posh area. The Estate Agent seemed perplexed that we were moving from 'posh village' to the one we were viewing.
Instead of talking up the area she was saying things like 'why would you move from 'posh village' to here?' in an astonished tone of voice. It was very funny.
WilmaKnickersfit you are posh. Read earlier post re licking plates.
Using a teatowel as a napkin also strikes me as a sensible yet mild eccentricity that could well be construed as posh. I hope you tuck it in to your neckline.
Big boobs also posh - see above re Clarissa Dickson Wright. Must be natural though.
My family still says "Thank you for having us" and I find it hard not to take a something as a little gift when I go to someone's home.
I'm definitely not posh because not only do we eat off laptrays, I even lick the plate if we have my favourite meal - and DH has sworn under pain of death to never mention it! And while I'm confessing, I use a tea towel as a napkin because I am terrible at missing my mouth (I blame it on my big boobs!)
Hmmm.. for anyone who watches gogglebox (though its probably common to watch it!) I would nominate 2 couples for 'poshness'. Steph and Dom, and Giles and Mary. They're quite different types, though.
Re drinking from the saucer, my mum used to do that when her tea had spilled over onto the saucer on the long journey from the kitchen quarters along corridors past the morning room / library / sitting room / drawing room / ballroom (I'm joking) to the day room.
