Staysure Insurance

Yesterday I was looking online for travel insurance. Got a quote from Staysure then had a look at other sites to get further quotes. A short while later I received a phone call from Staysure asking whether I wanted to take up the policy - told them I was still thinking about it. This morning I have received a text from them offering a discount! I really get annoyed at companies who hound me like this - so on principle I will not take their insurance. In fact I have received a cheaper quote, with better cover, from LV.

Be careful with Staysure. Last Sunday there was an article in one of the papers saying that Staysure has some nasty little clauses in its travel policy that you have to inform them of every visit you make to the doctor during the life of the policy, no matter how trivial the cause or how irrelevant to any health problem you may have otherwise the policy is void.

Several people have made claims and then had their claim turned down because of this. Some other travel insurers do this as well.

I moved from Staysure to another company for that very reason.
My insurance was suspended for weeks until I got the results of a ROUTINE x ray at my rheumatology clinic. I tried to explain that this is a normal occurence for me.
I was going on holiday and wasn't insured. It was so stressful.
My rheumatology nurse had to ask a doctor to look at it, so that I could get on holiday and have my insurance reinstated.

I found a similar quote for travel insurance from them; then my SIL went through his broker for us and he said do not touch with a bargepole!

Had one policy with them, perhaps fortunately didn’t need to claim. Doing a search the following year their quote was too high so I aborted the link. I was phoned three times and had numerous emails, each reducing their original price. The telephone calls were very pushy, demanding to know why I hadn’t accepted their policy. I blocked them on the phone and deleted emails. Not a company I would return to.

Staysure and many other travel insurers do this ( insist on knowing all visits to GP etc.) They do always ask upfront on the phone about it, not simply hidden in small print though.
Yes, it’s a nuisance but we have had good policies and good prices with them but you have to be totally honest about health.

It’s surprising how many people ( I know a few) who lie about things ( or rather, don’t declare them) like hypertension etc. This puts up all prices for others!

I went to one insurance company (I cannot remember which) who asked me to list every hospital admission in my LIFE. In childhood I had had a difficult and embarrassing condition that required a number of hospital admissions. The problem was sorted out when I was 13. 60 years previously. They wanted all the details and then put a reservation on the policy, even though I pointed out that even if, most improbably, it did reappear it would not require any short term medical intervention and I would continue my holiday as normal.

I stayed with them a year and I am now with a free policy given by the bank. All they ask, is if you have seen your doctor in the past year and what for. DH declares his standard problems and pays a premium.
