Laundry theory (yes I know boooring!)

I washed some jeans and trousers this morning, carefully checking the pockets for errant tissues - found none.

I have spent the last 30 minutes picking bits of tissue off the clean clothes! Whilst doing this I have come up with a theory, the fairy who comes along and takes a single sock also has a bag full of tissues which she leaves in a wash of dark clothes!

Sorry Rosie but the duvet cover I bought from Dunelm only had buttons on it (and a brown stain and split seam!!) angry

Gremlin at our house expects the dishwasher to load itself. Fortunately a fairy comes to the rescue.

How about the gremlin which subtly changes the shape of your favourite, most comfortable old shoes, so that they unexpectedly rub a blister (usually when you're miles from home!)

I have just tonight had a visit from a gremlin - jeans that have never run before decided to run when I put a white towel in with them. Luckily I found an old pack of 'runaway' in the cupboard because it does not seem to be available any more, replaced in every shop I have looked for it by 'colour catcher' which works very well but not the same - no good if the run has already happened ?

They have them in Dunelm. The last duvet cover I bought surprised me by having a zipper but now I wish they all did smile

Wow - I had no idea there were so many molevolent fairies and gremlins out there. I live alone so don't have the gremlins who leave tea bags in the sink or refuse to use the rubbish bin, however, I do have those that hide things after I know I have put them in a specific place.

Lyndylou Wed 28-Mar-18 12:38:51

They are definitely breeding Katek. There is one living in my daughter's house as well. smile

Katek Wed 28-Mar-18 11:55:36

Does your gremlin have a brother Lyndylou because I think he’s maybe living here. He always makes sure there is a pile of teabags in the half sink along with bits of food stuck in the plug hole cover. I have ranted at him but it doesn’t seem to make any difference, think gremlins are a law unto themselves.

Lyndylou Wed 28-Mar-18 11:43:14

My household gremlin collects used tea bags and puts them in the sink. I'm convinced it visits neighbours houses and brings them back as there always seems to be more tea bags than cups of tea drunk.

In fact thinking about it, I think the gremlin must live in the bin and has jumped out and frightened my OH at some point, as he is definitely too traumatised to use it now. Any rubbish, food wrappers or unwanted post, is discretely positioned on the kitchen surface just 3 feet away from the bin so the rubbish fairy can dispose of it safely.

Nina, a friend has duvet/pillow cases from Ikea with zip closure.
I always button up the duvet cover before washing, learnt the lesson after many hunts for lost pillow cases etc lol.

The one that still catches me out from time to time is the one lost sock that I know I put in the machine... hunt the ground to see if I dropped it, check the machine/spin the drum around... nope.. then notice a funny bump in the sleeve of a jumper and yep there is the lost sock!

BAMM2015 Wed 28-Mar-18 10:17:05

We have one like that too.

BAMM2015 Wed 28-Mar-18 10:16:32

I found a whole sheet inside the duvet cover after a wash last week. That particular fairy must have been a strong one.

harrigran Wed 28-Mar-18 09:39:35

We have a goblin that is afraid of the dark, every light in the house shines brightly, thinking of competing with Blackpool as an attraction. Socks do not go missing in this house, nowhere to hide grin

lemongrove Tue 27-Mar-18 20:49:10

Sometimes our little goblin ( can’t be a fairy, they only do good things) ventures a bit further out, steals and eats cheese from the fridge and leaves an empty wrapper in there.Sometimes the last bag of crisps goes missing too.
Worst of all, he leaves lights on in various rooms and often strews DH’s shirts on the bedroom carpet, inches from the laundry bin.hmm

Auntieflo Tue 27-Mar-18 19:38:57

Our fairy sometimes turns one pyjama leg inside out, whilst leaving the other one alone.

goldengirl Tue 27-Mar-18 18:47:51

My little fairy sadly only has one foot it seems as I put matching socks in the wash but only half of them come out. Where does s/he hide them????

lemongrove Tue 27-Mar-18 17:58:34

It’s not a fairy, it’s a tiny goblin and it lives on the shelf above my washing machine, popping out at night to eat socks, add it’s used tissues to the drum and drink all the Lenor.Grrrrrr.

DanniRae Tue 27-Mar-18 16:44:25

Maybe the tissues are up the sleeves of jumpers etc. That's where I poke my tissues!! shock

Cherrytree59 Tue 27-Mar-18 15:42:58

PS I also have a live in Gremlin!

His favourite pass time is tangling every electric wire in the house!hmm

Cherrytree59 Tue 27-Mar-18 15:38:28

Our fairy is lovely
She (know her well) changes the loo roll.
Wipes up crumbs.
Always loads the washing machine.
Always changes the towels and tea towels
Cleans finger marks

However she rarely does the cookingsmile

Oldwoman I put tissued items in tumble dryer, it usually gets most it off and the filter collects the bits and the fluff removing fairy then cleans the filter?

ninathenana Tue 27-Mar-18 15:27:17

Should be CT as in carpal tunnel

ninathenana Tue 27-Mar-18 15:25:29

Not laundry connected but the pesky fairy has made my kitchen funnel dissapear. She was busy that day because she sprinkled tissue confetti in the machine too.

Why don't they make duvet covers with zips ? It's a pain undoing all the buttons on a kingsize then doing them all up again to make the bed after. With my CP I find them so fiddly. ICBA to do it before and after laundering as well.

sodapop Tue 27-Mar-18 15:19:51

That's true in our house as well tanith the same fairy unbuttons shirts and shakes sawdust/grass from turned up jeans.smile

tanith Tue 27-Mar-18 14:55:22

Our fairy seems to assume it’s the person who loads the machines responsibility to double check not those who wear the clothes ?

Jayh Tue 27-Mar-18 14:45:05

Yes, that scallywag fairy has been in my washing machine today. Tissue confetti all over my navy trousers and top. ?‍♀️
