I wasn't aware there were any right wing posters on GN, they must keep themselves very hidden - and I do not blame them. The lack of respect shown by the left wing posters for anyone who didn't agree with them and the abuse they subjected politicians of other parties to, I found deeply unpleasant.

I believe that most politicians go into politics for good reasons and that the those in for self interest are evenly spread across all parties.

I may profoundly disagree with certain parties and their policies but that does not mean I have to constantly abuse them.

Well you’ve shifted your position a bit Elegran And FWIW I think there are people on here and in RL who don’t care about the disadvantaged - they certainly don’t seem to come up with policies that might address the issue but are more likely to simply blame people themselves.

I can't produce chapter and verse, but people have been accused in the past of not caring about the disadvantaged etc. Not in those exact words, but the meaning was there.

It is in the same vein as believing that only those who proclaim their adherence to the bible know how to be "good".

I don't think those who support Labour and Labour would say that they are not out to the left - some are definitely so and sneer at those who are not as far left saying they are secret tories, or have a "hidden agenda". Presumably that "hidden agenda" is considered to be to support plans to starve the disadvantaged and allow the sick and old to fade away .

There is only one mainstream political party in the UK which could broadly be described as "centrist", the Liberal Democratic Party, formed by the unification of the Liberal Party and the SDP in the 1980s. Having said that I think most LDP members probably think of themselves as slightly left of centre.

The LibDems are also the most strongly pro-EU party and really anyone who does not support brexit ought to be supporting the LibDems.

However there are strong vested intersts, particularly in the media (and that includes the BBC), which make it their business to denigrate the LibDems at every opportunity. This is the party which made the very difficult decision to join the Tories in coalition in 2010, only to be targetted ruthlessly by them and their friends in the media in 2015.

If you agree with the Liberal Democrat's policies, or even most of them, and want to see an end to confrontational two party politics, please join us, or at least support us.

That’s a bit OTT Elegran my pint is that there are some thoroughly nasty posts on GN from those attacking the ‘left’ AS WELL AS from the left. And your comment about monster etc is just plain daft. What I find lacking with posters who are anti ‘ left’ is that they never seem to suggest any policies to address issues. I agree with trisher what do people mean by ‘far left’ policies?

There it is again-"far out to the left". Try just posting some policies that you think are "far left" instead of labelling people. If you can post any policies of the present Labour Party that you consider "far left" then perhaps we can discuss them.

I wouldn't argue about there being nastiness and sanctimoniuosness in political "discussions" everywhere for the last few years, including some on GN, but you are surely not arguing that there is no santimoniousness among those GNers who are on the left? I have gained the impression that anyone who is NOT well out to the left is considered some kind of monster who hates poor people and would like them all to starve to death and vanish.

Jalima1108 the problem is that some people claim to be "centrist" but consistantly refuse to identify what they mean as this. They describe Corbyn as "far left" but when asked about what policies of the Labour Party they disagree with they fail to answer. They bring into the argument accusations of all sorts. Being unable to find out what they really believe in, it is no wonder that some of us misinterpret their posts.

Jal I just wish that those who criticise those on the left would also accept that there’s some pretty awful posts from amongst themselves. There’s a sanctimoniousness ( is that a word?) about some posts that criticise the left as though they( their critics) never post anything unacceptable and that’s simply not true. I’ve posted before about not being a JC supporter but that just falls on deaf ears because anyone who supports the left openly on here is called a trot,a communist, a corbynite etc - it’s totally impossible to have a sensible discussion about this on here and the loss of the three posters won’t make the slightest bit of difference as the development of this thread shows.

Many on GN have said that they would welcome a centrist party.

Anyone who is 1 degree to the right of Corbyn presumably and does not think he is the UK's answer to everything.

Even people to the left of centre are labelled as people on the right and I think they are tired of it.

Some people can see what is wrong, what needs putting right but are hesitant to endorse Corbyn as the man for the job.
