On our way home an 1hrs drive left. Dgd has just told dd (driving) she needs the toilet and dd has said she can wait until we get home.

I think she is out of order.

Depends, this may be a stunt this child pulls frequently - and then does nothing. How long has the journey been so far? when did the child last visit the loo? when did they last have a drink? How old are they?

More information is required before the matter can be considered.

Retrogran Wed 30-May-18 11:19:25

Journey has been 30 minutes
She last went to the loo this morning
Had a drink about an hour ago
She is 11.

How old is DGD and where are they driving?
You can’t stop on hard shoulders any more as many of them are intermittently a fourth lane.
(Horrid accident on the M1 a couple of years ago when some lads I used to teach were coming back from London in a mini cab (stag do, but sensible form of transport)
For whatever reason the driver pulled over on to the hard shoulder and a coach ploughed into the back of them, killing 3 out of the 4. I believe the coach driver had been confused as to what was hard shoulder and what carriageway. )

confused

It doesn't seem unreasonable to expect an 11 year old to last an hour and a half without a wee.

Retrogran Wed 30-May-18 11:33:44

Well I just hope the poor girl can hang @M0nica

M0nica Wed 30-May-18 11:35:30

I said reasonable that doesn't mean that there may not be exceptions. Is this one?

Retrogran Wed 30-May-18 11:38:52

She is bouncing up and down on the back seat.

Elegran Wed 30-May-18 11:43:44

Presumably her mother knows whether she is likely to last out the hour.

Bouncing up and down on the back seat will only make it feel worse, tell her to sit still. And tell DD about Shewees and other such devices if she doesn't like having to stop.

It’s half term again I see ?

MawBroon Wed 30-May-18 12:01:02

Duh! Of course Eglantine grin blush

One of the problems re our road network is the lack of loos and stopping places. It's not a good idea to hang on however old you are but there are times as needs must. 'Going' before leaving the house does NOT mean you can last - hopefully it does, but it's not guaranteed. We have a poploo in our car but of course you need access to off road area to be able to use it! We have turned off a main road on occasion to hunt out a pub or hotel. Shewees are fine but need practice - not good in an emergency if you've tried one before, especially if you're moving!!!

Years ago when the children were small we accompanied the children's grandmother (their fathers mother) to an unfamiliar large trading estate for her to collect something.

Grandma had form for setting off on journeys without knowing the end address !

We were sat in the car on a hot day whilst Grandma drove round and round. And round and round, with my children and I losing the will to live.

I said I'd get out and ask for help but the cantankerous old girl would not stop and was adamant she could find the place!

We kept passing the same car mechanic and double glazing firm but she would not give in!

My son with a gleam in his eye said he needed to go to the toilet . He didn't but it was a cunning plan to make Grandma pull over or go home !

"There's an empty bottle in the back", she snapped and indeed there was!

"But it's a number 2!" my son countered!

Grandma's immortal words, "Clutch it up!" grin

Thankfully that made the children howl with laughter and miraculously the business she was trying to find suddenly appeared and she pulled in!

Years later the children now adults laugh at "Clutch it up"! grin

Well we made it home a few minutes ago. The poor girl could hardly walk, we got stuck in traffic.

Belgravian Wed 30-May-18 13:03:28

Retrogran

If she went before the trip and was 'busting' after only 30 minutes into the journey she was either foolish and drank and excessive amount or may have a bladder control problem.

What does she do at school if she can't hold her bladder or very long?

Gerispringer Wed 30-May-18 13:03:44

I expect your DD is a teacher on her half term holiday. She probably doesn't let her pupils go in the middle of a lesson either.

Elegran Wed 30-May-18 13:25:18

Retrogran hasn't posted on the forum before (not under that name, anyway).

NanaandGrampy Wed 30-May-18 13:53:52

I’m sick of posts debating urination habits.... would it be wrong to say ‘ bring back the plimsolls and onesies threads!

Baggs Wed 30-May-18 14:21:44

Even the Gransnet ads know it's half term: just saw a Vans ad.

nanaK54 Wed 30-May-18 14:45:57

I agree NanaandGrampy - I quite like the plimsolls, onesie and ugg boots grin
