Long to short

Christal, beautiful dress! When I had my hair short, I had to faff around with tongs, mousse etc. Now I just scrape it back into a pony tail. I just can't be bothered. Also. I don't like going to the hairdressers, sitting there, having to look at myself in there mirror, all the while wondering what havocwad being done to my hair!

I have always had long hair and over the years have thought about shorter cuts but I am hopeless with drying hair into any sort of defined style (I have tried on DD).
At the moment it is waist length and is either plated or put up in a bull dog clip for the warm weather.
Every 6mths I have 2in" trimmed off and every couple of months have my fringe trimmed.

I have long waist length hair and I find myself tired after washing and drying all that hair. I would like to have a shortish haircut. I have had long hair for decades I don't know how I would be about shorter hair.
A website that would show what we look like with a change of hair style would be great.

Wonder if there is a website that you can put a picture of yourself on and then change the hairstyle? Would take some of the weight of deciding. I've had long hair most of my life and once when I had it cut short I found it so difficult to deal with. My hair is dead straight and it looked like a fright most of the time. Keeping it long for now. And tied up most of the time!

Photo please. Mines just growing back after losing it all from chemotherapy. Its mostly white, and some say I should keep it cropped short

Go for it, I never regretted it I went grey fairly young, had a bob which always looked nice, now I have gone shorter and love it.

There is a charity called Princess Trust ( I think) that you can donate Hair to that is used to make wigs for children with cancer,

I can’ stand faffing about my hair but like it to look good. Mine has been short for year but I alter the cut occasionally. Wash and blow dry alternative days and a little hair wax for texture. Takes about 10 - 15 mins max. Also went to natural colour about two years ago and very happy with the silvery grey that my hairdresser tells me lots of people are paying to have these days.

Hazbeen it took me a ling time to get used to my short hair . I remember my next door neighbour coming in and trying to get it to sit right the day after I had it cut. After a few variations it has settled over the years and looks nice ( will never be perfect!) and is easy to manage. You'll get there. Try styling products. I tried to upload photo but cant!

wot, my hair is just the same as yours - colour, length, etc. In fact, it was like looking at a picture of me!
I'm happy with mine, though. I clip it up in a 'beak' clip in warm weather. Wispy bits work their way out as the day goes on, and with my 68-year-old face, I don't suppose it makes me look pretty and delicate....but being 68 also means I don't mind!

What a wonderful and courageous decision. I'm about to be shot down in flames here when I say I often find long hair somewhat ageing in mature ladies. Mine is short because of a combination of unmanageable and laziness also I don't have 'a way' with styling. Hopeless! I suppose the bottom line is that you can always grow it back if you are unhappy. I'm quietly confident that won't be the case. Enjoy. I'm thinking of you already and probably will do fleetingly all day. Good luck.

I find when I have a haircut - it is fairly short - it is much better after I have washed it myself the following day. I don’t do any faffing -just blow dry it. You will gradually get to find the length which is the best for your hair - I have a kink when short and get up in the morning looking like a chicken - slightly longer and it is fine.

willow500 why don't you do it gradually? A few extra inches off each time. Mine was long and thick and i went to just sitting on shoulders. I have curling tongs and straighteners and find the curls sitting on shoulders looks nice but ring the changes by going straight sometimes. I don't flaff around for hours, 10 or 15 minutes each week.
Btw ladies if anyone like me has thick, bushy, frizzy hair i have found the solution after decades! Coconut oil. Rub into hands, pat on carefully otherwise you will have clumps of oily hair, then run fingers through hair. Magic, it halves the volume.

Good Luck wirh the new you from hairdo to new life HAZBEEN...........it takes courage, but is so well worth it............why spend life in a misery mode when you can be happy?

I think our hair style has a lot to do with how we feel inwardly and I am sure the new you,once you have settled into it, and grasped the few steps needed to look your best, will work wonders for the inner you............ and all aspects of your life.
Next you need to change the HAZBEEN for a futurestic knew name!!!

Best of luck. It might be a bit of a shock to the system to go short after all this time but it should be an improvement. I find that having good hair helps so much with self-esteem.
I've been short, long and medium.
Now it's short and easier to manage. Earrings and pretty clothes help me not to look too butch (I hope).

I wash my hair in the shower every morning, and blow dry it. The washing takes two minutes, the drying about five. The more often you do it, the faster you get, so don't give up too quickly.
Short hair is far better as we age, easier to keep in good condition and much more comfortable in hot weather.

Short hair much better,long hair dragged back puts years on you. Hazbeen, your hair will settle down, keep persevering, you will love it,put mousse on when you wash it, it will help.

I would love to have a short cut like Judi Dench, but unfortunately have a double crown which means the top just sticks straight up. So I need it to be at least 5- 6" for there to be enough weight to hold it down. Drives me mad.

I got up this morning looked in the mirror and burst out laughing! Overnight the new look has morphed a bit. My hair has a kink in it when its short which of course I didnt know as its never been this length. I have just spent half an hour washing, blow waving and hot brushing it to get it to lie down! Hope it settles as I dont think I can do this everyday!

I think Judy Dench has the nicest short hair....it suits her perfectly.

I was at the hairdressers yesterday and as normal she said are you having any off - I was extremely tempted to say yes take it all off! I've had long hair for years with a few inches off here and there but I lack the courage to go really short. I did have a really short cut when I was in my early 30s but I was also much thinner and it suited me. It drives me nuts when I'm trying to do something especially outside so I end up fastening it up. I've had it in so many different colours too! One day ...........

I’ve been having ‘economy’ cuts for as long as I can remember. DH doesn’t like my hair really, really short - but says it suits me. I’m not sure if its a compliment! It gets washed in the shower, towelled dry, roughed up and left. No hassle, no fuss. It is fairly course though and its style changes according to the weather. And the water. If we’re on holiday in a soft water area it becomes impossibly straight, limp and flat. Our hard water suits much better. Hairdressers try to style it, but no mousse or gel or extra hold lacquer can hold it. My hair does its own thing.
