rafichagran I think you are right. One of my grandson's had a mild disability which affects, among other things his toes. His eyesight is also very poor. He will never come anywhere but near the back of the running race. But he lopes along, knowing it's what he has to do each year.
I have a moving story to tell:
I was on my "Teaching Practice" many years ago as a student. Approaching Sports day.. in the Reception Class was 'Jimmy'*, wearing iron callipers on his little thin legs. The Teacher asked the children "Who is going to win the running race" Many hands go up; "Me! me! me!" then to my horror she said "Who is going to come last? all the children, bar one, shout "Jimmy!"
We get to Sports day. The Reception Class line up for their 30 metres. As they reach the end, one after another, we hear them say "I've won!" "I've won!" I've won!" Jimmy, alone now, is still hauling his heavy metalled legs along the track. His class-mates, however, have not obediently moved away from behind the tape as is the rule. They are standing looking down the track at Jimmy and are shouting;
"Jimmy, Ji-mmy! Ji-mmy!" until, with a huge smile Jimmy breaches the newly presented tape and shouts
"I've won!"
True story, I promise.
