People lucky enough to have a clear sky this evening (between 7.30 and 9 pm) will hopfully be able to view a Blood Moon Eclipse We have had a hot sunny afternoon but now the clouds are looming over head
Not always, not here, watermeadow, we had a clear view of the solar eclipse in 1999 from our garden! At the office where I worked at the time, 25 km away, they had clouds, however, spoiling the view. Some colleagues had come over specially from the UK to see it - they would have seen just as much if they'd gone to Cornwall!
Isn't it such a shame? We've had all this glorious weather, with clear evening skies, yet as soon as this eclipse event arrives, our skies are overcast and stormy - such a disappointment!
When any astronomical event is forecast it is ALWAYS cloudy. My ancestor sailed to Australia to view the Transit of Venus in 18something and it rained.
We had a beautiful view of the blood moon and the eclipse here in Central Europe. It was still really hot at 11 pm and we just sat in the garden and watched. No point in taking photos - we tried, but they didn't turn out any good.
We have been really lucky - the cloud that you lot had in the UK last night has now come and cooled down our morning with light breezes and fantastic respite from the sun. (Mind you our max temps have been higher than in the UK this week)
The moon hid behind some trees and we were worried we wouldn't be able to see it, then it appeared, all red, when the shadow was just passing across it - a tiny crescent of the unshaded part was just appearing in the top left-hand corner. It was between the tips of 2 tall pine trees, when seen from our garden, and Mars was a red dot just in the bottom of the "V" between the two trees.
There are some breathtaking pics on the internet, starting with the BBC site.
We have had our first rain about half an inch in the bucket outside my back door Sky now blue with some clouds and a bit of a cooler wind more like our normal summers day Hopefully the warm weather should be back mid next week
Oddly enough it was overcast most of last night, but there was a break in the clouds around ten o’clock and we managed to see about half the moon in shadow before clouds came back and blanked it out. I don’t call that a result, but it was better than nothing!
Where I live we have a dark sky place. I was so down this week because I couldn’t go to the usual spot in the mountains where star gazers gather. So much cloud last night no one saw it, lesson to be learned for me ?
It was pitch black here at 8pm and then we had the most horrendous storm, no chance of seeing a moon tonight. I felt sorry for the crowds on our seafront waiting for the firework display they must have felt the full force of the storm.
Saw it here in the Algarve, a bit disappointing rather small but Mars down below and to the right very bright. We've been having lovely clear skies here, and much cooler weather then London a mere 28!
No moon. Went for a walk, no hills but on to open fields hoping for a glimpse. A few minutes ago clouds parted to show a little bit of the moon, but the Sun had gone down so just moon white. There a some lovely red moon pictures on the net, Turkey had a big red moon
Just driven to top of local hill with some friends but clouds too heavy with no breaks.. not even a hint of a moon here...but deliciously cool and fresh!
