Winter draws on!

I love autumn, but I don't cope with the cold as well as I used to. Haven't much enjoyed the searing heat and parched garden. Such a lot of struggling plants and flowers. Sorry that many of you feel a bit melancholy at the thought of summer's ending, but there are delights to be had in warm, glowing autumn days.

Just don't any of you mention that midwinter festival, please...

hoping those of you bemoaning summer coming to an end
and autumn around the corner aren't the same moaning Minnies that were complaining about the heat{confused}

I can’t help but wonder how many of you ladies who are now complaining about the cold weather, etc are the same ones who were complaining about the heatwave a few weeks ago! Some people are never satisfied! I will sit back now and wait for all the snotty replies!

PS I hadn’t seen the post by muddynails but am glad she feels the same way as me!

Here in the north west, we’ve had a lovely summer but certainly not as much heat as darn sarf. We’ve been cool for weeks now and I sincerely hope the ‘heatwave’ comes back soon. I’m cool in the evenings but not enough to put any heating on, nosirree!

It's inevitable that there are early signs of autumn this year after the unusually intense and lengthy spell of hot summer weather we've had which I enjoyed for the most part. But glad for this bit of respite from it as it was very demanding of us who are not accustomed to it.
Expecting extreme weather may be the pattern of things to come particularly as we also had an extreme winter this year. Climate change in action!

I'm another Strictly fan and have danced with Vincent in London before he moved to N.I.
I'm dying to see the new dancers ans wonder who the celebs will be ghis time.
I'll miss Brendan as he was really outspoken and could be relied on to stir thing up.
I'm also enjoying the new series of Dragon's Den.
Autumn has it's treats and I prefer the cooler weather.

The sun is shining and pleasantly warm in Northamptonshire. I'm wearing a sleeveless top. We've had much needed rain over the weekend and I think the lawn mower will soon have to come out again. The Spring and Autumn are my favourite seasons as I really hate hot and humid weather.

I've just ordered a big padded, fur hooded 3/4 anorak all ready for an extreme winter. Well I like to be organised!

Second time in 18 months.

I'm on the South Coast, still very warm and muggy here. Got all the patio doors and rooflights open. I rather hope the 'heatwave' returns next week because DGC are coming to stay and it would be nice for them to spend some time on the beach. I have noticed it getting darker earlier but I suppose that's inevitable.

Last week I noticed winter clothes appearing in the shops and summer things being relegated to the Sales even though we're all still wearing shorts, tshirts and sandals, mind you I usually wear those well into November anyway.

I read that this warm weather has to go on until October,
I hope so .had a few showers here [North Yorkshire] and a really bad thunderstorm a coule of weeks ago, but bright and sunny and warm here now,
My son lives in Spain, Alicante area, but in the mountainous area, and they had a terrible storm on Saturday, huge hailstones, which have wrecked sun loungers and dented his car, and floods everywhere in the entrance to the house

I love Autumn too. Not looking forward to the short days and dark evenings though, especially when I have to drive. Not to mention snow,black ice and fog to contend with. Driving in the summer with the windows open and the sound of the birds here in the country is a joy but winters are difficult on dark narrow roads with no white lines.

I'm in London, we've had a few showers of rain over the past week but it's certainly not cold, I'm still sweltering and have the fans on overnight. Tbh I hardly ever wear a dressing gown in winter never mind in August. I shall make the most of the rest of the summer and hope it remains dry as my Conservatory roof is coming off to be replaced shortly and I don't fancy an indoor swimming pool. Once the roof is on I'll be happy for a few showers again. At the moment we have the best of both worlds sunny days with the odd shower to keep the garden happy. It's been nice not to have to keep watering the pots and topping up the fish pond.

We had a heart in the mouth moment when ours climbed the stairs (his new trick) to the bedroom where the window was wide open!

Yes MM I sadly have to agree with you. I put a jumper on for the first time this morning. Dearie me! I too am aware of the evenings drawing in. Horrid. As for those who 'love' Autumn, well I can only see it as a harbinger to Winter. Ugh. I will so quickly join these intelligent animals who hibernate. However, I will certainly miss going out for the long lingering lunches and the spontaneous chats in the High Street. Bring back the heatwave!!

I too see the nights drawing in much earlier. I can never recall having to, in August, turn on the lights before 10 pm. The last couple of nights they were on well before that time.

Forecast last night said another heatwave on the way.

I complained of the heatwave, i complained of the snow last winter.

Will also complain about dark evenings, don’t like them

Am relieved the OH has been away for a few days, as he would have been muttering about “the heating” and there is no way it’s going on until at least the beginning of October. Personally, I’d leave it longer than that!

In truth, each season has its own beauty.

It's the change in daylight that is most noticeable and the grey overcast skies make it feel as though we are heading for winter.
After so many weeks with super bright days that change in the light is not welcome. I just loved being up at those beautiful dawns and then watching lovely sunsets.

If the weather and climate 'experts' are right then at least we may look forward to another summer like this one next year.
