What exactly DOES this teach your kids ?

The way the SW incident was reported has been full of the usual criticisms that a woman could behave like this, words like hysterical, references to her losing control of her emotions because she has a small child etc.
When men lose it, it's often referred to in less highly critical or sexist terms. John Prescott hitting the egg thrower was generally reported with a degree of humour and understanding.
I haven't watched the SW outburst so can only comment on what I've read. She behaved like a prima donna it seems to me, just as so many of her tennis playing colleagues have in the past. John Mc is now a respected commentator.

I read this morning that Kirsty A was on a panel show with Jeremy Vine when she talked about smashing the children's iPads. He seemed to find it amusing, said it was something he'd love to do. I'm waiting for her to start writing about her children's teenage rebellions. Or for one of them to write a tell all about how dreadful their childhood was.

I’m shocked by both these women. What kind of message is that sending out? That women indeed overreact in some situations? It is feeding the ‘hysterical’ myth.

Both sexes can, given certain situations, overreact. Remember John Prescott and the egg throwing incident. But these I’m not impressed with either KA or SW’s behaviour.

Of course it wouldn’t JaneA and I did say two wrongs don’t make a right !

But the judge couldn’t dole out a punishment toward the female and not the male committing the same offence .

gilly suppose a teenager shoplifts and they appear before a magistrate.
Would it be a valid defence for them
to say that other teenagers deal in drugs and/or carry knives and their own crime isn’t so serious and therefore doesn’t matter?

Or that one of their friends also shoplifted but didn’t get caught, or did get caught but got let off, so they should be let off too?

By arguing that men are treated more leniently SW is just trying to deflect attention away from the fact that her behaviour was deplorable and inexcusable and to make her appear like a victim and to my mind that just compounds what she did.

I used to respect her but not any more.

She’s using injustice against women to excuse her own bad behaviour and that devalues the fight against injustice.

I am deeply shocked by Kirstie Allsop. Surely there are a thousand decorative ideas for things you can do with an ipad? Picture frames? Table mats? Glittery baubles?
Maybe she could knit some new ones.
On the other hand perhaps "any publicity is good publicity" is closer to the truth.

SW behaved badly but no worse than many men have behaved and got away with . In other words she is being dealt with much more harshly for something that male players have been doing( and getting away with ) for years . She has a lot of support from other ( former and current) female tennis players including the great BJK. I know 2 wrongs don’t make a right but as maryeliza has said you can’t have one set of standards for men and another for women .....or can you ?

I did deliberately say ‘leaving aside the question...,,,’etc.
By anyone’s standards, male or female, Serena Williams’ behaviour was unprofessional and highly inappropriate, especially for someone who has reached the pinnacle of her career.

Even worse for KA's children because their frustration and humiliation is then compounded by being broadcasted in the media so that everyone can witness them being disciplined. Oh how they must appreciate that at school with their mates.

Philip Larkin knew what he was talking about in This Be the Verse.

Leaving aside the question of whether men are treated more leniently than women by tennis umpires, I was quite shocked by her tirade when I heard it on the radio tonight.

What an example to set to young players. I feel really disappointed in her.

This can also be a red flag for emotional abuse.

Not all abusive parents physically harm their children. Sometimes they will take out their anger on their children's toys or other belongings.

There is a bbc piece on its newsfeed when she says this happened a few weeks ago. She also posted a photograph of her son surrounded by Tupperware boxes. His task was to

Limit screen time and tomonvolfe their children in age appropriate chores. I’m so relieved my mother was an altogether kinder, more gentle and fun mother than dear Kirstie seems to be.

Such a shame and pointless to smash such an expensive and useful piece of technology . As Jalima said some poor child ( who’s family could never afford one) would have made very good use of it . Silly woman .

She could have given them away to children who need one for school but can't afford one ….

It's shocking. I know some children who saw similar behaviour from their mother - emotional abuse in truth.

A lady a bit caught up with her own importance. She needs to think about how most parents behave and what they think of her behaviour.

My goodness, what an example to set to children. If small people over whom you have power, behave in a way you have forbidden, you over react in a big way.
Total lack of control, self indulgent expression of rage. Wait till her children show similar behaviour, bet she won't like that. Also, very frightening for children to observe, very distressing. If it wasn't frightening, that says a great deal about the level of high expressed emotion type behaviour they're growing up with.
Isn't she the woman who travels first class but puts her children in ordinary class?

Ohhh don’t like that, teaches them to be destructive teaches them that anger wins so if they re at school and a child refuses to share their colours they just throw them on the floor and stamp on them ?
