Crumbs, opening a new kitchen is a bit of a responsibility. I hope everyone finds it - I'll just leave the door ajar.

Bubbles and cake on the side - enjoy!

cornergran Fri 05-Oct-18 13:15:31

A good news day for synonymous and brunette. Delighted for you both.

Tara sounds to be on the mend Charley so more positives.

Ouch willow. Hope you’re more comfortable soon

Nothing to report today. Take care everyone.

Willow500 Fri 05-Oct-18 13:13:53

Ah my post crossed all the updates - just so please Smokie is home - he must have been very traumatised poor little soul and will no doubt stay close to home for a while!

Brunette congratulations on your new arrival - wonderful news - another little grandson to spoil.

Gagagran Fri 05-Oct-18 13:10:20

Congratulations Brunette - wonderful news!

My Mum always used to say that babies bring love with them and that is so true! DH and I have only this morning being saying how much we love our 4 DGC!

Glad Smokie is back home safely Synonymous - you will sleep better tonight now.

Charleygirl5 Fri 05-Oct-18 13:06:16

So so pleased he managed to find his way back home. I do hope he has learned that lesson, poor little mite, His paws will be tender for a few days but he is home where he is loved and cared for and he knows it.

I am having problems typing because Tara is lying partly over the computer keyboard, wanting to be in physical contact with her mum.

annsixty Fri 05-Oct-18 13:04:22

So pleased for you all Brunette one down and one to go.
Come on kitty's DD. Get a move on.

Brunette10 Fri 05-Oct-18 12:59:24

Just thought I would share my wonderful news that our DD gave birth to a beautiful baby boy last night. So glad all is well and so blessed we have now 2 DGS. Feeling over the moon! Baby, mummy and daddy all well.

Willow500 Fri 05-Oct-18 12:58:49

Morning all.

Charleygirl when Daph had her dental she was eating biscuits within a few days - pinching them from the other's bowl when he wasn't looking. She's only got 4 left at the bottom front but when she bites now she seems to have learned how to nip quite hard so her gums have obviously hardened up grin

Hoping for news on Smokey. The other one is still walkabout too - they certainly know how to make us worry.

I seem to have developed toothache myself today - I'm hoping it's a touch of neuralgia and not the start of a filling problem - it's the one tooth we all dread failing - we being me and the dentist & hygienist shock

I'm also having IT issues with a hard drive that's suddenly decided to write protect itself - definitely wasn't me but I'm currently backing it up in case it's going to give up the ghost with all the work's data on it.

Today's photo from son at the Munich beer fest is himself with a huge stein of beer wearing a Tyrolean hat - such fun! Hoping he enjoys himself and the break - definitely works hard so deserves it.

I hope everyone with health and family problems have a better day today. I've brought some soothing herbal tea for all and a big strawberry cream cake to share smile

annodomini Fri 05-Oct-18 12:51:52

Lovely news, Synonymous. The poor wee puss had probably got himself shut in a shed and damaged his paws trying to scratch his way out. He will appreciate his home comforts now!

annsixty Fri 05-Oct-18 12:46:44

I can only try to imagine just how happy and relieved you are.
I hope you all get over the trauma soon.

Nannylovesshopping Fri 05-Oct-18 12:45:13

Am so pleased for you that Smokie is back safe and sound, I love a happy ending?

Synonymous Fri 05-Oct-18 12:35:59

He is home! sunshinesunshinesunshine
It has been a good morning overall as our little cat managed to get home in the wee small hours. He was very distressed and we can only surmise that he was either trapped or shut in somewhere. Two of his paws, front right and back left, were bleeding and the pads were split open, claws damaged on all paws. He cried such a lot as he was trying to tell me all about it and he has been drinking non stop. He tucked in to some food so I think he is alright really, just needs to mend. The vet fitted him in straight away and gave him two ampules of antibiotics to prevent infection setting in and said his general good health will help him to bounce back fairly quickly. I hope he won't be too bouncy and this will teach him to be much more circumspect. It is a shame but they do have to learn that the world is a scary place. Thankfully the bill (so far) has come to less than £24 which also included his pest prevention stuff. I lit the woodburner so he is stretched out in front of it purring madly. smile
Such a relief! I wasn't at all well yesterday and spent most of the day in bed as I just couldn't do anything. ME is a beast.
The funniest thing is that the girl in the vet's told me I was spelling Smokey wrong and it should be Smokie as in Arbroath smokies - so there you are then and that told me. In all his official adoption papers and computer records he is apparently Smokie! grin
I am just so pleased he is home, what a relief.
Sorry my post is a bit long but I wanted to let you know Smokie is safe. hmm

Charleygirl5 Fri 05-Oct-18 11:18:18

Dull day here today- Tara is tentatively making her way through the cat flap and hopefully she will not stay out until 7pm or later. She is so much better, almost back to normal. She will not let me look at her gums to see if she is ready for her dry food again. She is supposed to be on wet food for 2 weeks but that is not going to happen.

grannyqueenie Thu 04-Oct-18 23:06:16

Not offended at all Corner in fact it’s just what I’m expecting! You know, a sort of reverse version of buying a new set of garden furniture and thereby chasing away the summer sunshine! grin

Overthehills Thu 04-Oct-18 22:36:40

Any news of Smokey Synonymous? ??
I’m glad about your gas fire Grannyq - we’re still have trouble with ours after numerous visits from the plumber/heating engineer. It just keeps deciding to switch itself off. I’m lighting candles in the hearth to cheer the place up but they’re not giving out much heat! grin
Sleep well everybody.

callgirl1 Thu 04-Oct-18 22:00:23

Please let Smokey be back home again, I keep thinking about him and wondering.
I`ve ordered myself a new coat/jacket online today. It`s a Sherpa fleece in a beautiful petrol colour. I don`t actually NEED a new coat, but I last bought one over 10 years ago, the same one in oatmeal, saw this one, love it, WANT it, so I`m having it, so there, lol!!
Soop, I hope you both enjoyed your coffee and cake at The Royal, such a nice place.
I`m looking online for a small table for Lynne for Christmas. It hasn`t to be expensive, it`s only to stand in front and partly to the side of her chair, to put her laptop on when she`s not using it. The table she has now is very flimsy, a folding one, it wobbles every time it`s touched. Haven`t had any luck yet, every time I think I`ve found the right one, it`s either too high, too low, or too long.

Nannytopsy Thu 04-Oct-18 21:59:22

Hello one and all. Sympathies to the bad backs and poorly feet - been there, got the T shirt! We had a feisty, all grey and very handsome cat who we lost as an ‘adolescent’. I am sure I saw him a couple of years later so he must have found a new home. We also were adopted by someone else’s young cat for several months before he moved on again. It is sad when you don’t know what has happened. I hope they all turn up. I am still working full time, so I only pass through the Kitchen - too tired to stay and natter. ?

Willow500 Thu 04-Oct-18 21:33:15

Synonymous really hoping Smokey has arrive home. Someone else I know is missing her cat as well - 2 days now. One of mine has done this a couple of times and it is so worrying - you imagine all sorts of things and then they just waltz in looking so innocent! Fingers crossed.

Grannyq pleased you finally have your fire installed - we have the fireplace completed but not the fire connected again. Still a chance the whole lot will end up in a skip!

My son sent me a photo of himself in his lederhosen - all I can say is it's not a good look and hopefully they will remain in Munich when he leaves just as the rigger boots he bought from Aldi at Christmas are still in our garage here grin

Had a lovely day out today lunching with 2 of the ladies from GN - we were the last to leave the tea rooms - who knew they closed at 4pm?! grin

I hope all those with aches and pains feel better tonight.

Fennel Thu 04-Oct-18 20:29:43

Soop - don't say you're going to get rid of that lovely curly mop shock !

cornergran Thu 04-Oct-18 19:46:29

Evening All. I seem destined to call in when no one is about. A little retail therapy today, didn’t manage to find what I was looking for but a good day with friends and many coffee stops which did also seem to need cake smile.

The foot progresses. Still swollen but little pain so I’m happy.

You must have been worried about Tara charley, she’s home now so relax, she’s bright enough to manage her convalescence. Try not to fret now.

Any sign of the wandering cats? They sure know how to worry their human families. Hope they are home safely very soon.

You’ll enjoy seeing your gas fire grannyq, hope it isn’t too disappointing if I say I’m hoping you won’t need it too soon.

Be brave soop, sometimes we all need a new self. I wish I could do the same but I’m struggling with falling out hair, little my poor hairdresser can do with it. Hope it stops soon or I’m in for a seriously chilly winter.

Delighted the sofa was collected so quickly callgirl, must be a relief.

Feet up time now. Take care everyone.

Doodle Thu 04-Oct-18 19:42:37

Hello all. Just popped in for a catch up with the latest goings on. Lovely anniversary photos soop.
Hope the missing pussies return home very soon.
gq sorry you have worries within your family. We can't be happy if our families have troubles can we. Try not to worry too much. Things have a way of working out in the end.
I am off for an early night soon. I have had really bad tinnitus for 3 days now and haven't slept much. I just wish the orchestra playing in my ears would quieten down a bit and let me sleep ?

grannyqueenie Thu 04-Oct-18 18:12:33

The gas fire saga has at last been resolved, expensively but resolved. The fire we’d chosen, a middle of the range one which carried a hefty discount, proved not to fit the space available. As you might guess the only one that would fit properly was at the higher end and of course had no such discount. Since they’d assured us it would fit, they did offer a small goodwill reduction...... given this was exactly the same issues as we’d had with original gas fitter there really was no alternative but to go for it. I was supposed to be out meeting up with some other grans today but decided I’d better stay here just in case. I’m so glad I did my old boy would have felt between a rock and a hard place! Doubtless after all this it will be a mild winter and we will hardly need the blinking thing on!
Staying local today enabled me to spend a couple of hours with my young friend with terminal cancer. We laugh and we cry together, it’s such a privilege to walk a wee bit of the road with her.
Glad that awful eyesore has gone callgirl like you I just cannot understand the mindset of folk who dump rubbish in that way.
I’m glad Tara is not of a mind to wander off charley and do hope these other 2 adventurous kitties come home soon.
Kintyre in Autumn sounds delightful soop, isn’t it such a joy to return after a good break and find such loveliness to enjoy on your very own doorstep!
It seems rather quiet in this kitchen today, I do hope that those who are coping with aches of body and soul are all ok.x

POGS Thu 04-Oct-18 18:03:08

soop

X. flowers. Just that really.

You have a beautiful soul.

soop Thu 04-Oct-18 16:47:43

CharleyG Cats are canny creatures. They know more than we give them credit for. Rory was partial to tinned tuna. I would give a king's ransom to have both Rory and Bracken back for at least another twelve months.
Yes, thank you, Charley we both feel rested. It was a most wonderful four day treat. We couldn't have wished for more.

We managed our regular walk this morning. The sky was clear. The colours of the trees and the drifts of fallen leaves was a delight to behold. It is raining right now.

Tomorrow is care home visit day and coffee and cake treat in The Royal.

I shall also pop into the hairdressers where I'm to have a "new look" on Wednesday next. hmm I shall take in a few pics of what I wish to look like when she's finished with me. shock Every time I think about what I'm heading for, I wince. I'm a stick in the mud. Same hairstyle for years and years. Yet, I think to myself...hey ho...time for a change.

Please go home, Smokey. I've ginger cake that's begging to be shared. smile moon

Charleygirl5 Thu 04-Oct-18 16:21:28

Tara has now almost recovered from her dental surgery on Monday- I am not too sure if I have because I found it traumatic, mainly because she is a willful little madam and no longer fancies soft food which she is supposed to eat for 2 weeks. She is normally on a dry food prescription menu and would not eat chicken I bought for her warm and cooked from Waitrose. She is her own worst enemy. She also has a heart murmur and is in the early stages of kidney disease. At least everything is paid for.

I do hope that Smokey has waltzed in the door as though nothing has happened. It is very distressing for you both. He has not been a house member for long but he has touched your hearts. They are gorgeous.

soop I hope that you are well rested after your mini break.

I managed to squirt liquid painkiller into her mouth once- she knew what was happening the second time so the jaw was firmly clamped.
