Crumbs, opening a new kitchen is a bit of a responsibility. I hope everyone finds it - I'll just leave the door ajar.

Bubbles and cake on the side - enjoy!

Yeay! Welcome back Panache !!
In case you hadn't noticed....you were missed smile

Grannynise Mon 24-Sept-18 14:04:09

Hooray Panache is a little bit better smile

Greyduster Mon 24-Sept-18 14:00:52

Aha! Panache! Croeso’n ôl, rydym wedi dy golli di! And before you ask, no, I can’t speak Welsh; I looked it up! I expect I shall have Annie on my back soon!?. Seriously, I am so glad to see you posting again. Take it easy and continue to improve! Thank you, Mr P!

I am sending cheese scones to the kitchen, after following Chaos’s recipe suggestion. I am giving myself four out of five (one mark lost for the two scruffy ones!). Onward and upward!

Willow500 Mon 24-Sept-18 13:52:38

Yeah its so good to see you back Panache - Mr P has done a sterling job keeping us up to date as well as looking after you and your house - he definitely deserves a very special thank you from us all. Yes it's a bit of a blow about the eye diagnosis but my MiL coped amazingly still producing beautiful hanging baskets, baking and cooking her famous dustbin lid size Yorkshire Puds. When you're feeling stronger look into all the help available such as special programs for reading/writing by speaking, keyboards with coloured keys (she could see yellow much easier) and gadgets such as talking clocks, rubber dots to stick on the microwave or remote control and something which helps with pouring hot water into a cup. Technology has moved on hugely since she developed MD so there are bound to be many more things out there. In the meantime enjoy being back in your own home and being spoiled by family and friends flowers

annsixty Mon 24-Sept-18 13:52:30

Dear Panache so happy to see you back where you belong, at home with your DH and here in the kitchen amongst friends who care for you and have been so worried about you.

Please take care and get better soon.

I an sorry to hear about your AMD, both Charleygirl and I suffer from it.
Charleygirl has the dry variety and I have the wet one.
I am almost blind in my left eye, just peripheral vision left
The worst aspect is pouring wine when I misjudge the glass and waste some?.

I would just like to say I have a provisional respite booked for my H for the first 2 weeks in December, I haven't visited the new home yet but it gets Good, from CQC.

Have a good afternoon all, it is turning cold here and the heating is on.

grannyqueenie Mon 24-Sept-18 13:30:42

What a lovely surprise panache, it’s so kind of you to let us know how you are. What a time you’ve had and your lovely man must be worn out, not just the physical aspects of it all but seeing the one he loves so unwell will have taken its toll emotionally too. I hope you are able to settle in back at home, looking after each other and enjoying being together. Sad to hear about these eye problems, hopefully some things to make it more manageable can be sorted out soon. Sending you good wishes and flowers x

Marydoll Mon 24-Sept-18 13:23:18

Dear Panache, it's so good to see you back. We have missed you so much. smile flowers

Doodle Mon 24-Sept-18 13:17:37

Panach I saw you name on the threads list and like soop nearly fell off my chair but instead dashed into the kitchen to see if was really you ?
How lovely to hear from you. You have been in everyone's thoughts. You have been through so much. Thank you for getting MrP to let us know how you were getting on. Please take care and get well soon

soop Mon 24-Sept-18 13:13:51

Oh boy! The day gets better and betterer. grin

soop Mon 24-Sept-18 13:12:53

Darling girl, It's more than enough to have you back. Don't worry about messaging us lot. We are more than HAPPY to see you in your chair with the tartan rug about your knees. Dear Mr Panache You are a star. Us lot love you to bits.

soop Mon 24-Sept-18 13:09:43

Panache WELCOME back. When I saw your name I almost fell from my chair. smile sunshine flowers I sahall now read your message.

Panache Mon 24-Sept-18 12:51:07

At last popping my head around yet another new kitchen door and what a welcome, seeing so many dear faces of yore plus a whole host of new ones, obviously the word has got out if you are NOT part of THE kitchen life is just not worth living!!

A very big thank you for your kind caring dear Soop and MacS which has proved such an uplift to us both, keeping in touch has been a real difficulty
Hope you have finally kicked those lurgies into the gutter Soop. Your time to fully enjoy your Anniversary break together.

I have been overwhelmed by the lovely messages sent personally and through the Kitchen, they have meant so very much at a trying time,I shall answer all in time, but please understand that this MD diagnoses has rather blighted my love of writing.....whilst having no Ipad or tablet (as yet, perhaps Father Christmas will deliver?).......my days on the Pc are very curtailed now.

My dear man has not known where he is at times, being in Hospital the most of every day throughout, whilst keeping our home ready and allowing in viewers..........no mean task, and I think he could well do with a good rest!
Now back to nursing and a good one at that.

My thoughts have been very much with you all and as always, especially with Ann and Maw.
I have now caught up with reading but please understand my participation has sadly been very much “clipped” much to my frustration.
I send each one of you much love and thank you for your kindness and caring,it has been a great uplift.

soop Mon 24-Sept-18 11:56:35

Thank you *Mr corner*There is a wee marker that can be turned on or off. I've put marker to off (I think) will report back later. Ironing duties tomorrow. The lady I visit also has a Kindle. She'll give me more info'.

soop Mon 24-Sept-18 11:48:00

Thank you Mr corner ...hmm I'm about to try to carry out your instructions.

cornergran Mon 24-Sept-18 11:26:22

I asked Mr C soop. If I almost understood the Martian he was speaking you

Access “Settings“. (something about swiping down at the top??)
choose “Language & Keyboard“.
then “Keyboard Settings“.
then you can choose “Auto capitalization” and “Auto-correction” and select “On” or “Off”.

Clear as mud to me but he says it works. How he knows I don't know as he has an ordinary Kindle, not one that is also a tablet. Something he read apparently as he's considering asking Father Christmas (aka Mrs C) for a new one. Suppose. he could be right hmm. Not sure about Father Christmas though. grin

Greyduster Mon 24-Sept-18 11:22:13

Hello the kitchen! The sun is shining! That’s a good start!
Chaos I couldn’t open your link to the scone recipe but found it on line and have screenshotted it and will have a go. I love cheese scones, but when I make them I usually put some dry mustard powder in too. It gives them a lift flavourwise - if not in any other sense. When our Debenhams had a restaurant you could get wonderful cheese scones, but now it is a franchise and they taste as if they are made with cheese powder. Awful.

Gq I had a little smile about your high schooler! They are still neither fish nor fowl nor good red herring are they? His Nibs was doing his best grown up thing when he stayed here over the weekend, but when he went to bed he said. “Will you sit on my bed for a bit please?” I did. It was freezing, but fortunately he went straight to sleep, so I wasn’t there long! Next morning it’s all body spray and hair gel before he goes to play in a football match! Like you, though, I look forward to those teenage years with a modicum of trepidation. I hate this whole social media thing and the way it seems to take over young (and not so young) lives.

Well, I will try and catch up later. Duty calls!

soop Mon 24-Sept-18 11:15:56

Good morning dear Granspals. Izabella How thoughtful of you. Keto biscuits home made will do very nicely. I'm about to have my much-loved morning cup of coffee.

Synomynous Your joy is contagious. A most enjoyable, uplifting post. smile

Willow500 grin grin grin

grannyqueenie I happen to like stodgy chees scones. Too good to waste. I shall be along later to give you the benefit of my tasting skills. wink

Eldest son phone yesterday. No call is ever shorter than 30 minutes duration. On average the call lasts almost three quarters of an hour. He's kind, funny, interesting and interested in our lives far removed from his family in Leicestershire. There isn't a better tonic on the face of the earth than time spent chatting and laughing with him. smile

I need to know how to disable predictive text on the Kindle. It drives me potty. Corrects my texts incorrectly. Buggerations!!!!

grannyqueenie Mon 24-Sept-18 10:50:42

Thanks willow. Yes your fireplace saga did ring a bell or two with me....the gas man’s coming at lunch time to check out our flue...to see if the expensive gas fire will fit....grin

grannyqueenie Mon 24-Sept-18 10:47:56

Thanks grans pals for your supportive comments about my ongoing family worry, it always helps to hear that others just want to fix things for their family too. Sadly when they grow up and are parents themselves an Elastoplast and a couple of smarties won’t do the job! Our DS and lovely dil are coping with huge worries about our troubled gd and our hearts just break for them all. Anno these issues that emerge in the teen years are indeed a massive challenge, only 3 of ours are teens but there are 5 more coming up behind them....oh dear, am I up to this I ask myself? I think you’ve got me sussed doodle, I’ll never be offended by the offer of a prayer, thank you. We enjoyed seeing our most local dd and her crew for a roast yesterday, the giddy girls were good fun as always. The new high schooler arrived wearing a little make up (!) but nonetheless seemed to enjoy regressing with granny’s box of farm animals. She’s still a little girl inside, despite the teenage issues that may/may not arise in the future....sigh!

Glad to hear you sounding more like yourself soop, I hope your recovery speeds up to allow you to enjoy your break to the fullest. synonymous, it sounds to me that you too are running a B&B - I love it! After a late summer flurry, it’s all quiet here now....until some good friends come to stay in a couple of weeks time that is.

Now on that cheese scone theme, I made some a few weeks ago. While tasty enough they were a bit on the stodgy side so I might try the egg thing next time, I do love a cheese nice scone! The picture of a diminutive blond in a pink crash helmet made me smile anno, I’ll keep my eyes peeled and run for cover if I need to! Ann, I’m hoping life at home isn’t too difficult for you since your holiday. Have you managed to sort out an alternative respite option?
Well the sun is shining and although a tad chilly my garden is calling, so I’m off for now. I’m sure I’ve not caught up with everything and everyone, but wish you all a good day whatever it holds for you. X

Willow500 Mon 24-Sept-18 10:26:02

Synonymous love the brandy snaps - thank you. When I was a child there was a cake shop nearby where Mum would buy brandy snap rolls filled with cream - it made the roll soft and chewy so the mention of them takes me back there.

Soop your husband sounds lovely - is he short sighted grin

Jud Georgie is just gorgeous - I must have missed the posts about her being disabled so hope she's doing well now.

GD back in my youth it was the epitome of style to have a Lambreta scooter - there were rockers with their noisy motor bikes and the mods with their scooters - I fell in with the mod crowd but never managed a ride on one sad

grannyqueenie so sorry to hear you have some family problems - it's so worrying when they are adults and you find you can only observe and not interfere unless they ask for help. It does make a difference being able to share the worries with your other half though. I hope everything gets sorted out in time. Your fire saga sounds a bit like our fireplace - we have yet to put the (rather old) gas fire back in and be connected up. I'm just waiting for someone to tell us it's not passed the gas safe test and the whole thing will be in the skip! New gas fires as SO expensive!

Re disappearing posts I've had this happen to me when I've gone to a previous page to look at something - solution seems to be to copy before you do it and then paste when you come back so you don't lose the text you're written.

It's bright and sunny here this morning which is showing the dust up something shocking so although I'm on standby for work I'm off to get the duster and polish out to try and bring some sparkle back!

Synonymous Mon 24-Sept-18 00:14:19

My goodness, what a lot has been going on in the kitchen this weekend, I think you will be needing something tasty to keep your strength up so have left brandy snaps on the side . So pleased to hear that recovery is the main event, but keep resting folks and don't do too much.
We gave had visitors over the past 3 days which has been really lovely so we are a pair of tired but very happy bunnies! grin Then yesterday my little sis rang to say she is coming in about 2 weeks time and then another phone call today so we also are going to have DS, DIL and GC coming for the half term holidays and I am very excited about that, joy days to come and not too long to wait and I thought we wouldn't be seeing anyone until next year. Dances jig around the kitchen and retreats into corner with very pink face. blush

Nannytopsy Sun 23-Sept-18 23:28:39

You are sounding more like yourself Soop - so glad to hear it.

ChaosIncorporated Sun 23-Sept-18 22:11:48

Sympathies (and Tiger Balm!) to all those suffering from "the bug".

It has been a funny sort of a day here, and I seem to have been in an accompanying funny mood. Too much time to overthink ...I think!

greyd ... try Mary Berry:
www.thejessicajournal.weebly.com/bake/mary-berrys-cheesey-cheese-scones

soop ...he really is a darling man, isn't he.

corner .... I am planning my exit strategy! I moved into the sector a few years ago when the first, early, retirement proved mind-numbingly boring after the first six months. Sadly, either the job goes or my own health will suffer.

willow ... does it count as slipping on a banana skin, when you have upended an entire box? grin

ann ... I hope you have had a quiet weekend.

morethan ... a lovely, thoughtful thing to do!

* gq* and anno ..... always so hard to be on the sidelines watching difficult family situations play out flowers

A wave to all the returning kitcheners not previously met. I have only been here for 5 minutes!

Izabella Sun 23-Sept-18 22:09:59

so pleased it is not just me experiencing disappearing posts. I called into the kitchen yesterday and have now lost the will to replicate my post. Suffice to say good wishes to all were included and something pertinent to you gd but memory fails me, oh and and pleased you are improving soop

A beautiful day here and a foray into two bookshops with good results. Great drive through the countryside under blue skies. I would like to say that there are treats for the kitchen but all I have to offer are keto biscuits (home made) with almonds and coconut.

soop Sun 23-Sept-18 17:37:44

Time to go...until tomorrow.

Sun continues to shine. Although still not fully recovered, I have managed to do a few catch-up jobs. My best wishes to every one of you. May your Sunday evening be kind to you.

Bye for now. smile moon
