My 4 year old GS often gives me some interesting insights into his world. Just lately, every time we go anywhere, he tells me "this is the BEST day of my life". So much so I have written this on the calender to remind me not to take life so seriously or granted! Wise words from someone so young. What inspirational quotes help you through life?

My mum, who was generous to a fault despite never having much spare cash, always used to say “There's no pockets in shrouds” when we remonstrated with her for spending money on us/her GC. I'm reaching the point where I feel the same way.

DD and DGD1 took me to lunch at a place with an antiques centre attached. 'I'd better keep moving' I said, 'Somebody might buy me if I stand still.' 'No-one could afford you, Grandma' said DGD, 'You're priceless'. Nicest thing anyone's said to me in weeks. ?

We’re short of nothing we’ve got (from my Nan).

A smart person knows what to say, a wise person knows whether to say it or not

A mind is like a parachute - it doesn't work if it isn't open

That's an excellent thought Krazykat.
But going back to children, my DGS, then aged about 3, would greet me with 'I love you too much Granny' which used to slightly puzzle me until I realised it was a mixture of 'I love you so much' and 'I love you too', both of which he'd had said to him many times.

“There, but for the grace of God, go I” said by my Mum many times about those less fortunate or in any sort of trouble. My children can now be heard saying “There but.....” to themselves, and the whole thing to their own children.

My mum used to say that you should keep a good man blind in one eye and a bad one blind in both.

This doesn’t fit the bill as an inspirational quote but it did fill my heart with love.
My 4 year old grandson had a one day sickness bug last week and I looked after him. He was sick roughly every half hour for 11 hours and was so patient and sensible. Nearly at the end of the day, pale and exhausted, throat sore and eyes pink, he said sadly, “This is the worst day in the whole of my life”. By the next morning of course he was quite recovered.

When it feels scary to jump, that is exactly when to jump, otherwise you end up staying in the same place your whole life...

"Never complain. Never explain."
Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
This quote has kept my mouth from running away from me and i say nothing.

My personal mantra:

In this life you can choose to laugh or cry. I have chosen to laugh.

But the one that touches my soul is from a poem by Aldous Huxley:

'From quiet homes and first beginning
Out to the undiscovered ends,
There's nothing worth the wear of winning
But laughter, and the love of friends.'

"This life is not a rehearsal." Words to remember when opportunities present themselves.....

We were lost in the car one day and three of us were looking at the map.
Suddenly youngest son (about 4ish) pipes up "we're not lost we're here"
I love kids logic.

I was very flattered when on Skype the other day my DGD (4) said 'I like your top very much Grandma!', spent all day feeling good about myself, and then I thought about it later and wondered why I was so delighted at this praise from a small person whose favourite colour is pink, and who prefers clothes with glitter, rainbows and unicorns on and plastic jewellery!

Fine words butter no parsnips

Old sins have long shadows

A true lady is someone who doesn't mind being called a woman

I don't know if they're inspirational exactly.

"Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little"

Bathsheba Mon 24-Sept-18 19:01:12

I have a board on Pinterest where I save quotes that 'sing' to me. One of my favourites is:
"Many people are so poor, that the only thing they have is money" Rodolfo Costa

Judge not and thou shalt not be judged.(makes me think twice before being critical of others).
