Seriously though have you an efficient way of tackling a dirty oven?
My son has moved into a lovely home but although the kitchen is fully fitted and is quite clean the oven is a horrid sticky smelly mess. Real hard film of grime on it as well as the burnt on stuff.
It smells bitter. I've not faced such a dirty one before. My son is doing the cleaning by the way.
Other than getting a professional service in I'm hoping for tips.
I had a professional clean after my son lived in my house and left the oven in a terrible state. Well worth the money. Was charged £52.00. Now I keep on top of it. I also use Astonish, and the 'bag cleaner'. I was going to have a professional clean every now and again, but as yet haven't needed too.
I roasted a chicken today - fat splashes everywhere. But after lunch, the still warm oven was easy to wipe clean with a rub of Astonish on a cloth. It takes virtually no time at all and it's lovely always to have a clean oven.
It's bad enough having to do the cooking - you mean I've got to clean the b****y oven as well ?!?!?!
We have two single ovens, one is always very clean as it only gets used when the family visit and I'm cooking for a crowd. The other is used daily, and when I can no longer see through the glass door I clean it - the door and shelves anyway, sometimes even the whole oven. I once got a cleaning company in to do it (Oven-U) they were fantastic and were able to clean areas I can't easily reach. But sadly there is no longer a local franchise in my area, so it's back to OvenPride and Brillo pads.
It just wouldn’t work in our house gmelon. You have just given me a mental picture of my lot at the table. It would be cries of ‘seriously?’ we have to wait until you have cleaned the oven before we can eat? ?
gmelon Your comment re multiple ovens made me laugh, especially linking it to the 'rider' about your MS which, of course, isn't funny. Here's to humour which can be found in even the most perverse situations.
I can just imagine the family sitting expectantly roundthe table, dinner is cooked, Mother or Grandmother with her head in the oven shouting "hang on kids, this won't take a minute"
SInce I discovered, a few years back, a local company called Oven Wizard, I just get them in every other year, and my 14 years old oven comes up like new each time. I do use a Halogen oven now, quite a lot, and although the bowl for that is easy to clean, the hinged lid is not, anyone got any suggestions on how to clean that?
I get mine cleaned a couple of times a year by a local professional. Reasonable cost. In between I have a remove able liner on the bottom which I take out and scrub in the sink when it gets grubby and was over the glass door regularly. It's an induction hob which gets sprayed and wiped after every use, that takes seconds and its sparkling again. Wish I'd had an induction years ago they are fab.
We have a self-cleaning oven which is brilliant, and I use Oven Pride for the removable grill trays. (Also good for BBQ grills). It all comes out sparkling clean and my oven, which is nearly 20 years old, looks brand new. ☺️
