Hello the kitchen. I’m sorry I have not put my head in the door since Thursday. Sadly we had a bereavement in the family along with worries about GS having some health issues investigated, so it has not been a good time, but we are getting there. I haven’t a hope in Hell of catching up, but I would just like to say I like your style, Panache. True grit is what you have in spades. Ann also. And Soop I’m glad that Tabitha seems to like her new billet. She looks a lovely girl!
We had a walk out in the sunshine today to our local country park as I wanted to give the birthday camera a test run. Pretty pleased really, although it does all the work, not me. I just hold it! There were lots of wildfowl on the lakes, and a pair of black swans! Also this very lovely lapwing resting on one of the waterski ramps (no water skiers today!). I spent ages trying to photograph a grebe but every time I got him in focus, he dived, so the only bit I managed to snap was his bottom! I had to be satisfied with that, because then he completely disappeared. It’s all a learning curve! We had hot chocolate and home made scones at the cafe and by the time we got home I was on my knees, but it was good to get out.
I will bid you all good evening and try and hope to be more attentive.

A slip of the tongue I suspect annsixty.

annsixty Tue 13-Nov-18 17:08:16

I would not normally make an issue about another post but I am totally perplexed about the post by old goat
We don't have conflict in the kitchen it is one of the friendliest places to be, and this seems to me totally unjustified.
What have I missed?

Charleygirl5 Tue 13-Nov-18 16:41:51

My apologies oldbatty that was directed at oldgoat.

Tabitha is a lucky lady I think.

soop Tue 13-Nov-18 15:50:59

Friend has fixed the computer. He also cleared up the desktop. Much easier to navigate. A couple of hours well spent.

I apologise for my criticism of the leader of the Labour party. It is a personal opinion. I have read and rued countless comments deriding TM. I haven't made a thing about such comments. This is after all a democracy. However, I shall keep my personal opinions to myself from hereon.

Away to prepare Tabitha's supper.

Back a little later.

Charleygirl5 Tue 13-Nov-18 14:32:42

Oldbatty you are mixing up your forums stating elsewhere that you had never "met" so many nasty people on one forum- it was not this one! Goodbyeeee.

I now of course cannot find anybody to fit my new loo seat- marvellous.

My hair has just been cut and it is far too short at the side a puff of wind and my hair is in front of my eyes- not long enough for a whisp to go behind my ears to keep it in place.

ann enjoy the baking- the problem is that it has to be eaten but please do not worry- we are very good at leaving crumb free plates.

Oh Panache not a meal to which to look forward-the bright sides are no thinking what to have each meal and little washing up.

soop that was very sad but at least M was happy and loved your company.

annsixty Tue 13-Nov-18 14:24:17

I am missing the same thing here.
Nowhere at all have I seen any sort of political comment.
Please put us right oldgoat

MawBroon Tue 13-Nov-18 13:55:19

I am missing something oldgoat
I see nothing about the leader of the opposition at all today confused

Let’s not quarrel in the kitchen please!

oldgoat Tue 13-Nov-18 13:43:05

There are so many unpleasant threads on Gransnet these days but I have always regarded the Kitchen as a safe haven , where posters make kind and supportive comments and keep away from politics. However today there have been a number of snipes made about the leader of the opposition which have tainted this thread.
Sorry soop. I've enjoyed your company but I shan't be visiting the Kitchen any more.

EllanVannin Tue 13-Nov-18 13:28:57

Love your posts Panache---you're one tough cookie. Your writing reminds me of the way Monica Dickens wrote when penning her " One pair of Hands " and her " Feet " one too.

Panache Tue 13-Nov-18 13:14:25

So sorry Soop never pleasant hearing such sad news but you must gain comfort from all the love you have shown her,a great loss for you and your MacS
Certainly allowing you perhaps more time to spend getting better acquainted with T.......when able to hold a conversation of sorts this too will prove invaluable.
You do such a lovely service and I am sure today leaves you rather drained from the news.
A virtual hug is on its way.

Panache Tue 13-Nov-18 13:09:25

At last!!!

Time I spent some time in The Kitchen with you lot and the one thing very much on my mind has to be ............food!
We are strange old beings because it is always what you cannot get you want most of all!......and even in Hospital, very often “nil by mouth” and yet the greatest conversation is centred on.......yes food.
Whilst, if like our Hospital the food is never a culinary delight at best.

However since I live now mainly on my “meal in a pot” called Ensure ......and for those that asked the question.... it comes in several flavours,it is quite palatable, although 3/4 times daily I doubt whether I shall think that in a month`s time!

But remembering the time as a Nurse myself when “Complan” was all the rage, these meals have improved and in my case...... due to a very seriously distressed digestive system............ it will likely be my main diet from now on.

Just think......no hope to go out for that odd meal out,or in my case of latter years, just a snack ,nothing extra for those Birthday,Christmas and anniversary occasions........whilst you all talk with great pride about your preperations for Christmas............ I think I must learn to run and hide!!

However a big thank you N & G for well and truly lightening the mood and suggesting an Anniversary party here within the Kitchen walls
It is a thought, but as yet no one has thought of a Christmas flavoured “Ensure” or a Golden W. one come to think of it!!

Why not “toast” your new Log cabin with the first “Ensure” party?

I am already feeling more than wonky, having just sipped your Mulled Wine flavoured “Ensure “ Overthehills...........more if you please!!

Perhaps you can test out your new mixer Ann for this party that has been suggested......though somehow I rather think you have far greater things occupying your time!
Glad to hear you are back more yourself again.

Seems you have much to look forward to Charley as I know how you enjoy your meetings with 3 other GN`s and no parking charges will allow you to indulge in a second helping of Carrot cake!
You certainly seem to be ever waiting for these various service men,I hope they deliver, as its such a bind .......just waiting.

Living dangerously I note with the fitting of a loo seat..........
You certainly brought some humour to our Kitchen Doodle mentioning the illuminated toilet seat.......it certainly had my mind making up its own jokes!

Maw Trust you to chip in with a white leather one, velvet or satin............the mind boggles!!
Good to see you are starting shall we say,a new era afresh with aplomb.

I think I had best relieve my own Kitchen cleaner to save your delicate hands from partaking Corner........he is well acquainted I can assure you.
Do treat him gently though as he is limping badly from Sciatica!

Love your sunset image yet again Soop......you never fail. One fortunate Tabitha too.

Have I missed a posting from GreyD..........you are not forgotten.......and that goes for all of you......cannot fit you all in!

I apologise for a totally random posting today, hopefully I am about to get myself back “in the grove” certainly it helps when walking into this Kitchen and reading all you have been up to.What a mixed bag indeed.

Trusting each one of you are feeling in good spirits and those with health issues I hope are having a good day.

With sun shining brightly in between ferociously sharp showers time to say bye for now.But yes,I`ll be back!

MawBroon Tue 13-Nov-18 13:00:31

Oh I am sorry to hear that Soop!
But how lucky she was to have her regular visits from you and McSporran flowers

soop Tue 13-Nov-18 12:49:57

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. Where have you been of late, Nannytopsy? It's good to see you in the kitchen.

As ever, so much catching up to do. Dear man will hopefully fix the computer glitch after lunch.

I have been to see M in the care home. Sadly, I was greeted with news of her death. The care home has been closed for two weeks due to a bug. M didn't get the bug. She died in peaceful surroundings. I have been visiting her for nigh on three years. We've laughed a lot and I shall miss her. I shall continue to visit the home together with my friend. Today, I spent all my time with T, who has suffered a monumental stroke. Although our conversation is curtailed by her condition, we still communicate as best we can.

Nannytopsy Tue 13-Nov-18 12:29:40

Glad to hear you are feeling a bit more like it Ann despite the buggerations. Always glad to sample your baking!

MawBroon Tue 13-Nov-18 12:09:32

I hate to admit it but I am embarking on the Christmas spreadsheet! Days, people, meals, food, what I have already, what is ordered and shopping lists .
Might have a little lie down soon. smile
I have to strike while the proverbial iron is hot as the urge soon passes.
Still smarting over Sundays lunch etc (other thread on arriving empty handed) but hoping that keeping busy will help me to hmm and put it behind me.
Onwards and upwards!

annsixty Tue 13-Nov-18 11:23:08

Good morning all and it is a good one here which in turn pleases and frustrates me as I cannot go out in it.
My equilibrium has been restored today, I feel like my old self, non of which is down to my H who has taken regularly to "weeing " on the carpet in his temporary bedroom which is the dining room.
The carpet needs to be taken up and thrown away, I can no longer get down on my knees to clean it so it is a spray with an antibacterial spray and a mop up with an old towel.
I also have an issue with the prosthetic dept at the local hospital.
Many months ago my Amoena breast form, known as the chicken fillet, burst and only recently did I order a new one, I rang this morning to see why it was taking so long and of course, no-one knew anything, it wasn't on the system, I now have to wait until Friday to speak the woman who deals with it.
I am lucky I suppose it wasn't a new wooden leg I needed.

Pleased to say my new mixer came yesterday, well done Currys, and this afternoon Sainsbury's are delivering, SR flour, butter, caster and icing sugar, vanilla extract, walnuts and lemons. I forgot choc chips, that will have to wait until next week.
You will know I am happy with it if you find cakes in the kitchen tomorrow.

Have a good day everyone and love to the poorly people.

Nannytopsy Tue 13-Nov-18 11:19:41

I do love a nice macaroon - thank you Synonymous. Yes it is quiet today - I keep sticking my head round the door and you are the first to show up. Off to photograph “autumn” for my class - brilliant blue skies here this morning.

Synonymous Tue 13-Nov-18 10:11:55

My goodness, I thought the kitchen would already be buzzing this morning but I can't see anyone at all! We have sunshine here so I expect you are all out while you can. My cleaning fairy is here and I have to take Himself for another appointment so will pop back later.
Macaroons and a fresh pot of coffee on the side! smile

Charleygirl5 Mon 12-Nov-18 19:26:12

corner for the second time in as many weeks his phone did not remind him he had an appointment here! The last time I said he should resort to good old fashioned pen and paper but that was too alien. I explained what was wrong and of course it is all my fault- I must be in analogue but I distinctly see the word digital when I flit between no signal channels. I realise I am elderly and female so how could I possibly understand? He will be lucky if he gets out here alive- this will be the third time and still my new Humax does not work- it has frozen- again, no doubt my fault.

At least I had loads of time for paper shredding so the house does look tidier. This fellow is coming on Wednesday- it will be the same time as the Morrison man.

At least I will have a pleasant morning because I will be meeting up with 3 GNs for coffee- this is our 4th year and from memory, this will be the 3rd meeting place- at least parking is free there. I do hope it is the day they supply carrot cake, my favourite.

Nothing but the best for Tabitha I hope. Have you any idea how old she is soop?

Panache I hope you had a restful day at home.

Synonymous Mon 12-Nov-18 19:17:41

Lovely photo soop !
We have been chuckling about the loo seat! I rarely open my eyes if I perambulate at night so that I can nod off again really quickly so am not at all sure about the multi coloured lights show. hmm
Thank you for the birthday wishes smile
Dear Panache wishing you well, so sorry you have had a bit of a relapse.
Himself is calling me for supper so I will look in later.x

Doodle Mon 12-Nov-18 19:13:40

Well I thought I was joking when I said illuminated toilet seats but obviously not. Whatever next, a round of applause for a 'number one' and a fanfare for 'number twos' ?. I think I'll just be grateful for a toilet seat that closes quietly by itself ?
soop what a beautiful picture. How nice to hear you say you are preparing Tabitha's supper. I do hope she comes to enjoy it ?

cornergran Mon 12-Nov-18 18:31:22

Mine too maw. I’m just pleased Mr C is unaware of the existence of toilet lights, he can’t resist a gadget.

Hospitals are miserable places, panache. Here’s hoping you can recover at home. Are the Ensure drinks flavoured? If not could you add something to make them more palatable or would that be defeating the object?

Sorry you’ve been poorly ann, you can well do without feeling unwell.

If anyone is fighting with Facebook a message has just appeared on the news feed on the iPad saying it’s down - everywhere. Doesn’t afffect me as I don’t use it but I know many of you do.

We’re apparently too far from the green box in the street, whatever it’s called, to get a good broadband speed. BT have tried in fairness more than I thought they would, no luck though. It’s fast enough for what we do, seems odd to us as we’re on the edge of a town and know the villages around us can all get super fast broadband. Not fair or words to that effect hmm. Little enough in the scheme of things though.

Hope the tv is fixed charley and the engineer escaped unscathed.

Have recorded They Shall not Grow Old, we’ll watch it when we have a few quiet moments

Right, best clear the kitchen. My usual kitchen clearer has gone out to a meeting so it’s an unusuak task for me, wonder if I’ll remember how to do it ? grin.

annodomini Mon 12-Nov-18 18:31:11
