MacSporran called me to look through the kitchen window not so long ago. A tabby cat...loitering beside what was at one time, Rory's wee chalet. That was long before he moved in and took over the happy home.
Very early on, we had to trap Rory and his wifelet and two kittens to have them spayed/neutered. One kitten was the late Bracken. The second was a tabby. Oh me, oh my!!! I shall make sure that the matting in the chalet is replaced with something newer and nicer - just in case Tabby decides to spend the occasional night in it. To be honest, as much as we love cats, the very thought of becoming attached to another and ultimately possibly losing it, is too much to bear.

How much I agree about cancer being brought out into the open and talked about.
My father died in 1949 from cancer, it was never discussed and kept from neighbours ,it was almost something to be ashamed of.
I have friend who still believes that many cancers are lifestyle choices and she expresses her views.
I am a BC survivor as are many who are diagnosed in later life.
We never talk about it now but I will always give informed facts to anyone who tells me they have been diagnosed.

I haven’t read the other thread, but cancer needs to be talked about and not hushed up. I agree with Willow500.

Well I'm raising my hand very firmly and shouting loudly - no one should be afraid to voice their thoughts and cancer is definitely not something to talk in hushed tones about! I can't imagine there is one person in GN who hasn't had experience of someone they know who has been diagnosed with it in one form or another. It's in my mother's family, my in-laws both had it and also my husband's niece (thankfully cured). It robbed 2 children of their mother, wives of their husbands, me of cousins and my husband of his parents. Advances in treatment go on and so does life but in life we are always confronted with death so what good does hiding the facts do anyone. MawB should definitely not go!

Corner I hope you manage to control the pain until you can get to the dental hospital - I've tried to dismiss mine but I know in reality it's actually still there just hovering under the surface. Meanwhile enjoy your visitors. Your tree photos are stunning - I love autumn but am very relieved not to have the leaves to clear up any more in our garden!

Soop I too can't believe Mr S is that age - you must look after him very well What a worry about the dreaded NV - it was always worrying when I got the call from Mum's care home not to go due to a bug. They were very good at containing it though with barrier nursing so hopefully your friend won't succumb. Your sunset photo is also beautiful - there were some very strange skies coming home last night but nothing worth recording. My GD took some fabulous pictures in the Lakes last week - she's a wonderful photographer.

GreyD I hope you got your camera. Our house also makes a lot of noises in the night - sometimes with no apparent reason!

Someone mentioned tinnitus upthread and coincidentally it was talked about on GMB this morning as Susannah Reid suffers with it. I've never had experience of it until a few weeks ago when I woke up with a whistling noise in my head and since then it's there in the background. I may mention it to the nurse tomorrow as they said some medications can cause it. I know my mum used to complain about it before she went deaf.

I've done our clocks now - the cats are unsure why they're not having their meals on time too!

No idea what we can have for tea tonight so I have to go and raid the freezer - Mr W will no doubt have a 'surprise'

Dear Kitchen friends I shall leave my space free so you can breathe a sigh of relief Soop............(I am only jesting!!!)

However in the light of one deeply upset Maw whom has only spoken from her heart around a subject she knows ......sadly........rather a lot,on another posting.

Because she feels extremely upset finding the criticism extremely insensitive and hurtful, she is taking a back seat here.
I say let us all stand up for freedom of speech and plead with our Maw to perhaps rethink.
There will be a warm chair kept for her right by the aga.
Should she take a rest,it will certainly be to the detriment of us in the Kitchen.

So perhaps its up to us lot to raise our voices as Soop would say!!!!

corner please at least ring the dental hospital to tell them you are in pain so that if it escalates you will hopefully queue jump because they will be already aware of your problem.

soop are you sure you have not got Mac Sporran's age wrong because he looks so much younger in the photos.

It is sunny here but there is a nip in the air. I am doing absolutely everything except fill in my Blue Badge renewal form. I intend boring them into submission. Already I am nearing the end of page 3 of the extra information. Somebody will have a good slumber when he/she reads it. I hope to hand deliver it tomorrow.

The care home is closed to visitors. The dreaded Norovirus has put in an appearance. I shall therefore have Tuesday morning free.

Dear ann When I read of your shared meal with your delightful guests, my heart sank for a wee while. The girls will understand that your husband is unable to converse as he once did. His illness has robbed him of the art of diplomacy. I feel better knowing that you have come to a decision that will, given time, benefit you both.

corner you have my sympathy. Tooth ache is awful. The sooner the problem is rightly addressed, the happier you will be.

I haven't really caught up. Reason being...there are other domestic tasks to address. The longer I put off doing useful stuff the worse it will be. I've a stack of ironing. I'm also preparing for a pal to visit. And, as it's MacSporran's 78th birthday on Saturday, I need to make an effort on his behalf.

Oh dear maw, I’m with you, it’s not something to be talked about in hushed voices. Yes, there’s a lot of fear attached to a cancer diagnosis but not calling it by it’s name is unhelpful in my view. Guess we’re all different, no need for attacks over a difference of opinion.

After a morning out at the local NT lunch with Littlest is over and I am now not required as there are trains to be played with which it seems is a male only occupation. I get a very firm ‘no’ if I try and what I can only describe as a look to freeze. Still, good to have a sit down.

Bit unhappy today, the dentist was right and the filling didn’t last so I guess it’s the dental hospital for me. Just hope there aren’t months to wait, its aching already. Suppose I should phone and tell them, oh dear, can you guess at the level of reluctance here?

Have the big ones tomorrow and Wednesday so a busy week ahead, no time to think about teeth that’s for sure. .

Sorry about the noises in the night greyd, hopefully something simple and easily quietened. Good luck with the camera shopping, JL is my go to place for similar items, the staff are unfailingky polite and patient with explanations and do seem genuinely interested.

Looks like a railway supervisor is needed, there is a dispute over track layout, it seems I am to decide. Now, which one of the railwaymen do I upset?

MawBroon take no notice . Why should we speak about Cancer in hushed tones . I think we should talk about it normally as this helps us all to carry on in a normal manner and not making the situation worse when people may not talk about it at all . To talk normally about cancer helps us all to get on with life with or without cancer . MawBroon I’m with you so stay .

It is a searingly bright, cold morning and I have been up since the crack of doom! GS sent me a photo of the Statue of Liberty during the night our time - at least he says it’s the Statue of Liberty but I could only just make out what looked like a grey finger sticking up on an island. I don’t know where he took it from but they were very high up! ?. It may have been my phone pinging that woke me up, but our house is full of strange noises lately. DH says it’s the plumbing. I wish he wouldn’t keep mentioning plumbing!!

Corner I loved your photos of the trees. Autumn has been rather disappointing for me so far; we are a very green city but the real autumn colours seem to be slow coming this year. I think a trip to the Botanical Gardens is called for before all we have left is bare branches!

Ann that must have been so distressing for you and for the girls, though I’m sure they took it in their stride. I remember similar incidents with my dear BiL - always the most gentle man whom I never heard use strong language until he became ill. It’s a cruel disease.?

We are off out today to pick up DH’s new glasses and then to look at, and hopefully buy, a new camera. Problem is I’m not sure now whether John Lewis have the actual model I want and I did want to get it from there. We shall see.

I had better take Himself a wake-up cup of coffee, or we will never get anywhere this morning. I will look in later.

Good morning everyone! There has been lots of running around over the weekend - what busy folks. There is leek and potato soup and a lemon drizzle cake on the side. It is definitely soup weather here - DH took ages to defrost the car this morning. Off for a coffee with my nearest GNer this morning. Hope you all have a good day.

N&G, love the photo of Cooper the puppy. Your not very nice soup reminds me of some friends from a long time back, we went for supper, and she`d made something from a new cookbook of unusual recipes. Apple, egg and onion fried up together, it was vile, and there we sat telling her how nice it was!
There`s been no snow here, thank goodness, hope it`s not on it`s way.
Talking of soup, that red pepper and paprika sounds tasty, I can only make celery.

Me and Mia are just beginning the twice yearly battle of the clocks. She has her treats at 10pm, and every night she`s there on the dot waiting. Tonight, as will happen for a few more nights, she was waiting at 9pm, she didn`t appreciate having to wait another hour!

Oh dear. I seem to have been jumped on from a great height for a post elsewhere earlier today about cancer and not whispering “the big c” in hushed tones.
Well this is not allowed to be a thread about a thread but if I am not around for a while it could be because I found the criticism extremely insensitive and personally hurtful.

So many post today that by the time I'd got through all of them, I couldn't remember where I started. Maw, Flynn already knows just how to win hearts, doesn't he - a most endearing wee fellow.
Such a lovely day and I would have loved a walk in the grounds of one of our Cheshire NT properties, but even a wee walk is quite painful and I am hoping for some relief from the steroid injection in my rump which is to be administered on Tuesday. I have ascertained that at least one property which has lovely gardens all on the level can lend mobility scooters. Maybe that would have been worth trying today.
ann, what a pity that your Sunday dinner was spoilt by H's behaviour, and I hope - for both your sakes - that sooner rather than later, a good place will be found for him in a care home.

corner those trees are beautiful-I assume that they grow close to you as it would appear to be rather large for a rear garden, whichever part of the country you live in.

Ann I l also am so sad that this the way you have had your decision confirmed. You are lucky that your GD understands the situation and ignored your H. It would be lovely to find a bed for him before Cmas so that you could have a relaxed time.

Hope the germs don’t stay greyd. A walk this morning woke me up at least, trees rather than the beach panache, flagging a bit now though.

I’m so sorry ann, that meal must have been so hard for you, it isn’t the way you would want your decision confirmed.

Flynn is learning fast mawb, that would melt anyone. His Mum has no chance. Sounds as if Cooper is in for a disappointment n&g, definitely no puppies in school .

The feline kitchen companions seem to be behaving, long may it last.

Ahh. The dreaded clock change. Given up with our boiler, have to be out early tomorrow so battle recommences on Tuesday.

synonymous isn't it amazing what a good night's sleep can do. I suffer with tinnitus and some nights the noise is so loud I just cannot get to sleep. Fortunately when ever this happens I seem to be so tired the next night that I sleep all night which is bliss. Sorry I must have missed your golden anniversary. Many congratulations to you both.?

annsixty I know it is awful when your DH says such terrible things but it is not him it is the illness. It seems such a cruel thing to happen that people lose their dignity and become aggressive when it is against their real character. I hope you find a good care home so you can have some peace of mind. It is the right thing to do.
