Cold weather so gas boiler is kaput!

I remember those days well don'taskme ice on the inside of the window. Undressing in front of the fire then a mad dash to the bathroom for a bath. No full baths allowed then only the minimum amount of water.

I'm sure you know that only a qualified engineer is permitted to do anything other than reset a boiler. As our friend says "remove the cover turn the knob if that doesn't work call me"
None of my buisness what you do in your house and I hope DH can get you toasty again very soon.

Hanging the towels and clean vests on an airer to get them warm. Wearing a woolly hat indoors. Hot water bottles that burst. Walking to school with a hot water bottle up your coat. Ahh, this no central heating spell is bringing back the joy!

Just had nearly a week without gas (talked about that on another thread). In our case the problem was in the mains, so nothing we could do about it. But the problem sounds similar and it is remarkable how quickly one adjusts.

We were fortunate that, although we had no electric heating of any kind. we do have a wood burner in a central chimney, which gave us enough heat to function, but found ourselves, reliving childhood experiences.

First job of the day was to get the stove cleaned out, ash tray emptied, and the fire going, then having to remember to keep it going all day by regularly checking the fuel situation. Was their enough fuel on the fire? Did the log basket/coal skittle need to be replenished from outside? (usually when it was raining)

We were also without hot water, so I took to going down to the local leisure centre and using their showers every other day.
