I am in a bit of a dilemma, because while I was in the care of the local authority in a children’s home, I was seriously abused on a daily basis by someone who’s identity I do not know. There is a very, very slight chance that this person could be identified, as it was someone who was resident at the home at the time and I believe this person contacted me on Friends Reunited about 20 years ago when it was running, to check me out. I was so horrified that I deleted the message.
It all happened between 1968 to 1970 when I was aged from 8 to 10.
I am now approaching 60 and the memories don’t ever go away. The whole experience has completely destroyed my life. I have read stories of people bringing their perpetrators to justice and I worry that because I haven’t reported it, that other people may have suffered at the hands of the same person?
There was a case today where someone reported something similar in 1980 and wasn’t believed, until someone else came forward and then the guy got convicted.
Since counselling several years ago, I have managed to face facts, whereas in the past I blocked it out in the back of my head and refused to believe it ever happened. I have self harmed regularly over the years and occasionally in the depths of despair have tried to kill myself.
The worst thing of all, is now I am comfortable with talking about it, friends and colleagues who I have known for 20 plus years do not believe me?
This is so hard to deal with and I feel I should go further just to prove that I am not lying. I understand that it is a terrible thing for people to comprehend as they cannot imagine such a terrible thing could actually happen to someone they know.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do? What do you think you would do if you were in the same situation?
will WE learn any thing from the rcent hot weather?
