Puzzled ?

What about trying to put new bulbs in those teeny flush to ceiling spot lights that electricians love to fit? I have two monster boxes of light bulbs: large screw, small screw, large bayonet, small bayonet, candle bulbs, bulbs for cooker hood, weird bulbs for an IKEA lamp that cost a fortune: I NEVER seem to have the right one in stock when one blows. What about some standardisation? And should I start a new thread on gadget chargers? One for phone, one for Kindle, one for iPad, one for toothbrush: I could continue...

I think I may need new lampshades now.

I buy bulbs if I see them on offer, and have a little stash of them now, but invariably, when a bulb goes, there isn't a replacement. Not only that, it takes me ages to work my way through them all to see if there is an equivalent one.

Assuming you want large bayonet, you could try this one. It has good reviews.

Energy saving ones, but its like living in a cave.
I used to use 100 watt ones, but mine seem to be getting darker and darker!

I should add that the exact GU10s we bought are no longer available but alternatives are on the site in 7W versions.

Sorting out replacement bulbs has become my job in our house. I have bought most of ours from LEDhut online. The selection available in shops is poor compared with online sellers so it's no wonder many people are not finding what they need. Bulb selling websites are quite useful for fathoming out what to buy.
We have spotlights GU10 in the kitchen - three types of white are available, warm white, daylight white and cool white. The beam angle is very narrow on some bulbs. I bought wide angle, daylight white and they are fantastic, it really seems like daylight in the kitchen and not so stark as the cool white. Ours are 4.5 watts LED, replacing 50W halogen. As we have ten, the savings are phenomenal.
For other rooms, I have bought warm white bulbs. It is possible to buy them in brightnesses as good as the old incandescents and in shapes to suit. The only type I have had trouble with was candle bulbs, dimmable. They flickered and weren't bright enough. I bought dimmable halogens in the end , still cheaper on power than incandescent varieties.

Wow, GrannyGravy the bulb replacement scheme sounds brilliant. All our lighting is LED as we are completely off grid on our boat and our electickery comes from our bank of leisure batteries which we charge when we run the engine. We find them adequate, although when I knit or sew with dark yarn or fabric I could do with them being just a tad brighter.

Aepgirl, we felt the same until we bought some LED's. They are completely different and I can actually see again!
