I think condoning child abuse in the name of religion custom or practise should obviously be banned under UK law.

I knew a boy who was circumcised for medical reasons, he was about 9 at the time and it was done in hospital. No excuse for doing it any other way or just because of religion. Many religious beliefs are based upon the way life was 2000 years ago and not appropriate now.

It could be argued that circumcision is carried out in certain countries for health reasons, particularly in tropical climates. It is not just practised by people of the Jewish faith, indeed, I know of cases where it has been advised on medical grounds.

There is absolutely no excuse or reason for FGM.

Religious customs have no rights to abuse anyone be that children or women.

That’s why I think it’s vital to be able to criticise religion customs and practise without being called racist.

I know but I think the best way forward is to keep it simple.

Mutilating a child is wrong. End of. No FGM and no circumsicion unless the adult decides that’s what they want at 18! Without anaesthetic! Wonder how much take up that would be.

Race and religion are not combined and should not be viewed that way in this country in my view.

With all due respect FGM is practiced more widely than some have mentioned and countries such as Pakistan, India, Syria, Iraq do have recorded evidence this is so. It not as prevalent as the African Continent but it does exist.

There was a story that ISIS were demanding FGM be inflicted but there has been doubt cast on this. However that is not to say FGM has not been adopted, who knows.

PECS if we condemn FGM outright surely we should also condemn circumcision outright too, unless of course there is a medical reason for it? Is FGM religious or cultural?

Judaism & anti-Semitism is a very interesting situation. Jewish people can be from different racial groups but are also considered a race and a religion combined... even for secular Jews. It does seem equitable to put the anti Islamic rhetoric on the same footing.

Jane this thread has some vile intemperant out of all proportion posts on it re SB and her family and what should happen to her. Once that type of post is coupled with in some cases the information being plain wrong and in case libellous, why is it surprising that they provoke strong responses? Why no criticism of those posts then? Why just me ......hummmm?

Iam & PECS I probably didn't express myself very well, I was thinking in terms of where this girl is and where she will give birth. Presumably surrounded by ISIS and others. Not sure she is doing anything from her own culture any more.
