Nonnie, so far as I am aware SB's family have Bangladeshi background. FGM isn't usually practiced in either Indian or Pakistani Muslim communities.
For what its worth, I don't see either male or female circumcision as either necessary or appropriate. anything that has life long consequences should not imo, be carried out on children before they're old enough to give informed consent. (18?)

I abhor of course FGM and the routine mutilation of baby boys in the Jewish religion. It’s barbaric. And apparently both are practised here in the U.K. one abhorred while the other accepted.

EllanVannin, I can't find any evidence to substantiate your claim that FGM is practiced in Syria.
It is practiced in certain communities as a cultural rather than religious demand. Religion as ever will be 'blamed' but it's cultural, in the same way that women being totally covered, rather than merely modesty dressed is said to be 'religious'.
FGM is likely to be practiced, secretly, in countries where those who believe their culture and faith demands FGM will attempt to continue this barbaric and life changing practice.

EllenVannin - FGM (which I assume is what your'e referring to) isn't common in syria. It's practiced in a number of African countries, in Egypt and by Christian and Muslim groups.

If someone makes a mistake and it is pointed out in a reasonable fashion, that is fine; the poster can then acknowledge their mistake, if they haven't been frightened off the thread that is, and the thread will move on.

Jane10 you posted an open and reasonable question on an emotive subject. You are not responsible for any subsequent posts! There are those who clearly take a 'hard' line & those who do not and most in between who are not sure what the better solution to this difficult question is.

jane10 in my opinion being torn on issues often means you are a decent person who sees both sides of a situation.

Being misinformed or mistaken isn’t actually a crime. It’s fine to correct mistakes and help spread correct information without being aggressive rude and unpleasant.

Some posters post because they want a friendly network to debate with and of course have a robust exchange but not to be bullied called racist or any other name.

Being Marmite is fine for teenagers but as one gets older you hope to mature.

If she can get herself on a plane ( unlikely) then the UK would have to accept her back here.Otherwise not.
Can’t see any emergency planes being sent on a mission to extricate her from the camp though.
