My first paragraph was simply stating facts - about 340 British ex ISIL supporters have returned and after undergoing sessions to determine if they are a terrorist threat, they are allowed to stay and are housed in council accomodation. Therefore I assume only the second paragraph has caused offence.
I have posted similar comments before - there is only so much money available to governments. The need is greater than the supply so some things go by the wayside - healthcare, old people care, education, environment, police, etc there have been many requests for more money to be devoted to these areas so where can we cut back?
Regarding housing, there are families with several children living in hotel rooms with a fridge and microwave, sometimes sharing a bathroom with others. Some have been there years. We do need more housing, but also, I don’t think it is a bad thing to suggest that a single mother who cannot be supported by her family, lives in hostel- like accomodation where they have other single mums to share experiences with. It could possibly have a resident older person as caretaker they could turn to. I am talking of good standard 1 bed accomodation with its own shower room etc There could be a communal laundry with several machines and driers. Perhaps communal kitchens and/or facilities in their own rooms. I am not suggesting it as punishment.
I would also advocate similar accomodation for single immigrants and other singles who cannot afford to rent. Possibly converted hotels. It would be cheaper all round, provide companionship and enable them to save. Perhaps such purpose built or converted accomodation does already exist here (they do in Germany) but I have seen tv programmes where immigrants in Calais say they want UK because they get a house instead of living on the streets. Perhaps they are misinformed?
