Moody son-in-law

Try hard to ignore it. If you think he likes the fact that it upsets you, don't give him that satisfaction.

I do feel for anyone who has to suffer somebody else’s moods. Children can learn that moodiness is just not acceptable and effort has to be made - it’s just the way it is, even if it’s tough. But a moody adult!! No! It’s selfish, but having said this, I absolutely don’t know what you can do about it apart from feel annoyed inside.

I don't know what to do about mine either, he makes me feel like I'm intruding when I'm at their house. He never has much to say, although I try to have a conversation with him, it soon peters out.
I never take sides, never interfere in their life, I'm good with the two GC, I just give up trying to engage with him now and let him do his thing.
My daughter admits he's hard work and says he's shy but he has a high grade job so has to deal with people on a daily basis so maybe he just doesn't like me

I have one of those in my extended family. I usually say "Are you in one of your moods again?" or, as my Irish neighbour used to say - Are you trowin' a moody? - and that seems to snap him out of it. Amazing.

Telling them to cheer up will only make it worse.

Have they always be moody?
If so then it is probably part of their personality.

If it is a recent change in behaviour then could they have worries re job, money etc?
Could depression be a factor?

Sometimes its better to leave the person to come out of their bad mood without any cajoling.

I have one of those , he is great when in the mood , very helpful , but we know to stay quiet and avoid when he is in a different mood . I am very fond of him
