Are there things that you have learnt or found out?
And then think I can’t believe I did not know that!!”

Today I learnt from another post that St George’s day is moveable not always on 23rd April, felt should have known as it is my Birthday!

I only found out in my fifties that you turn the lid on tubes of stuff like antiseptic cream and tomato paste the pointy bit pierces the foil . Before that I used something pointy!

In my sixties I found out that you could crumble Oxo cubes in the foil and it was less messy (not the chicken ones though). Also that baby vests can be pulled down and not over the head to help avoid the 'poo everywhere' scenario. Lucky DGC!

I was 70 before I found out about the foil box/clingfilm flaps!

Happy Asparagus Day everyone. I'm looking forward to learning more!!

Did you know that, 'orchid' and 'avocado' mean the same thing?
Best not to write the definition or I'll have GN on my tail. grin

MY dil tells me Oxo can be opened as a cushion shape but I've never had any problems dealing with an Oxo cube and I'm astonished people do.

Just been to look at my foil boxes - no flaps of any kind, not even on the non-stick foil (and isn't that invention a godsend?).

My cling film box has a fixed roll and a neat little slider to cut the film though.

St George never visited England

Jane10 Wed 24-Apr-19 07:31:33

The flaps on foil boxes?! Well I never knew that. Am off to the kitchen right now. Thanks!

SparklyGrandma Wed 24-Apr-19 09:25:14

Non stick foil, Bradfordlass72 ?

Wow, another thing I don’t know about that would be 100% useful....

I have found that opening a banana from the non-stalk end is easier. Just watch a monkey!

angelic Wed 24-Apr-19 09:57:56

I didn’ Know that Avocado and Orchid are the same thing, that is interesting.

annodomini Wed 24-Apr-19 10:01:44

phoenix, asparagus also makes your pee green (pea green?). I only discovered that from DS and when I told my sister, she didn't believe me! She does now.

Grannyknot Wed 24-Apr-19 10:21:13

I listened to a podcast on sleep last week, top neurologists presenting, and I learnt that there are channels in the brain that drain toxins from the organ whilst you sleep shock.

Who knew?

I must find out more.

angelic Wed 24-Apr-19 10:31:05

Do let us know what you find out grannyknot!!

ninathenana Wed 24-Apr-19 10:36:31

DD says a baby dosen't develop knee caps until they are 2 yrs.

Grannyknot Wed 24-Apr-19 10:45:26

angelic here you go:

Scientists have discovered a cleansing river inside the brain, a fluid stream that might be enlisted to flush away the buildup of proteins associated with Alzheimer's, Huntington's and other neurodegenerative disorders.

Our bodies are fascinating.

angelic Wed 24-Apr-19 11:04:59

Gosh Grannyknot, are bodies are indeed incredible in so many ways

Eglantine21 Wed 24-Apr-19 11:07:20

Beetroot makes your pee pink.

I’m so fond of it too.....

angelic Wed 24-Apr-19 16:53:44

Pink wee is fine, could be a worse colour?

annodomini Wed 24-Apr-19 17:14:09

It doesn't make just your pee pink - or red!

Auntieflo Wed 24-Apr-19 17:15:51

As I am on holiday at the moment, I will have to wait until we get home, to discover whether my tin foil box has flaps or not!

KatyK Wed 24-Apr-19 17:20:32

I think it will have Auntieflo smile

gransal Wed 24-Apr-19 17:20:53

angelic well it has not moved in all the 65 years it has been my birthday! It has Ilovecheese - it was moved in 2011 and 2014:

"Since Easter often falls close to Saint George's Day, the church celebration of the feast may be moved from 23 April: For 2011, 2014 and 2019 the Lutheran, Anglican and Catholic calendars celebrated Saint George's Day on the first available weekday after the Octave of Easter (see Easter Week) (2 May 2011, 28 April 2014 and 29 or 30 April, respectively) Wikipedia

Happy birthday for Tuesday, hope you enjoyed your day smile

angelic Thu 25-Apr-19 10:19:43

Bathsheba,
Thank you I had a lovely day, hope that you had a good day as well

ginny Thu 25-Apr-19 10:23:16

Did you know that a pheasant can only fly for about 28 wing beats because otherwise it’s heart will not cope ?

bigcol1 Thu 25-Apr-19 10:39:48

Are you sure you are not mixing it up with Easter? that was v close to St Georges Day this year, but I have never known St Georges day to be a moveable feast. Not unless they changed the rules at least xxxxxx

bigcol1 Thu 25-Apr-19 10:41:43

They are the same shape deffo. Maybe they are from the same family? I wouldn't mind either one tho myself xxxxx

bigcol1 Thu 25-Apr-19 10:44:49

I heard the same thing about the knee caps. I think igt was on Q.I which is a v useful prog. Apparently, it is something to do with until then it is all cartilage and it isn't till after then that they develop bone, so I suppose it is v pliable xxxxxx
