New royal baby names

Hug plus a o (hug symbol). The best. My eldest son is called Hugh. Called after the poem "he is gone to school wee Hugh and he not three.

I was a bit confused as I am certain I read that George's nickname was Archie. Why would they chose the same name????

That last line of my above post was from me to my dear son. Not from Meghan to Archie. Clarification.

Each to their own.
Archie he is and Archie he shall remain and no reason why his parents should not choose their baby’s names.
To refer to them/their choice as “chav” is appallingly rude and says more about the poster(s) in question than the Sussexes.
The question was what do we think?
I think Archie is rather sweet and I see no reason to get exercised about it.

Some years ago we had a neighbour who called her son Harrison, so it isn’t a brand new name ( he was usually called Harri.)
I like Harrison but dislike Archie, although all the old names are back now ( but in shortened form, Freddy, Bertie,Harry,
Olly etc.)
To me, Archie conjures up the vision of either an elderly man, pottering in his greenhouse or a West Highland terrier.

Just what I expected of these two 'slebs' - trendy names rather than classic ones. How dull.

Remember all the fuss about Princess Anne calling her daughter Zara? There was a lot of Shock Horror about that.

I like the name Archie.( Sorry Dawn22 don’t like the name Hugo but do like Alex). Lovely to see the photos of a very happy couple with their new baby today.

My DD, when she heard the names, said that when Meghan calls him in the park, ten other little boys will look round. I was hoping they'd call him something a little less popular.

We have a Harrison Archie in our family. I am quite pleased they haven't gone for the usual king's names.

I´m afraid that here on the Continent, the German press have picked up on the fact that the name would be mispronounced as "Arschie". Arsch being the German word for one´s posterior.

I'm not too keen on it although I know of a few little Archies. Surprised they got it passed Granny, though.

But, as others have said, it's their choice, and "Archie" as a name will probably gain other connotations over the next couple of decades.

Just read that George's nickname is Archie..why would M & H give their new baby that name too? I knew an American name would be there somewhere. Harrison is nice but Archie (no!).

I grew up listening to a ventriloquist dummy called Archie Andrews, so it's the dummy I'll be thinking of unfortunately.
However, there's a handsome NZ-Samoan actor called Archie Andrews as well.

Personally, it doesn't matter two hoots to me what the royals (or indeed anyone) calls their babies, it's their choice.

I liked the little boy on the BBC video who suggested 'Cloud-Pineapple' and the dear little girl who said, with such aplomb, 'Blaze!'

Apparently George once told a reporter " My name is Archie". Nobody actually calls him that, he just made it up as kids sometimes do. My DD used to tell everyone her name was "Pink" but that was just her imagination. Same with Prince George.

BradfordLass* Prince Harry didn't actually say that. He simply said , when asked what Archie looked like, that he'd been told that babies change a lot in the first two weeks so they'll be monitoring his appearance to see how he changes.

I assume they already knew he wasnt going to have a title.
Prince Archie or Lord Archie wouldn't have quite the same ring to it as Prince George etc.

Archie is not a name I would choose, but then I am from a different generation. He will find others with the same name when he starts school so will fit in well. I quite like Harrison, but imagine him solving the mystery of the Ambridge bunting!
My neighbour has a cat called Alfie and a son called Archie. I find myself having difficulty remembering which is which. I might be less confused now!

I quite like the name but if he is given the title of Prince by the Queen it doesn't really sound right. Prince Archie?

I had an uncle Archibald who we called Uncle Arch. He was my favourite uncle so has a friendly feeling for me. Harrison makes sense. I think it is a nice combination of names and unusual without being strange or pretentious.
