I think mine is inspector Morse.
Although I still love Columbo grin

What about yours?

Fionajw Mon 08-Jul-19 01:31:35

Poirot and Vera

grumppa Sun 07-Jul-19 23:51:38

Lewis, principally because of the regular appearances of Clare Holman and Rebecca Front. Plus the views of Oxford, of course.

I agree that Stephen Tomlinson is not at all like banks. Can’t watch Agatha raisin either. The casting is totally wrong.

Lesley Sharp and Suranne Jones in Scott and Bailey; Joanna Scanlan in No Offence; Brenda Blethyn in Vera; Nicola Walker in Unforgotten. All magnificent.

If we are going back more years than I care to remember - Starsky, Never Hutch!

Urmstongran Sun 07-Jul-19 22:28:14

Who could forget Ltn. Theo Kojak?
So sexy!
Sucking that ubiquitous lollipop?

tidyskatemum Sun 07-Jul-19 21:57:27

Montalbano - though the Italians have obviously never heard of DNA, fingerprints or preserving evidence
Lewis
Poirot
I was hooked on Castle for a while until it got really silly
Unforgotten with the brilliant Nicola Walker

I’m reading the latest Jackson Brodie, it’s a great read. I was delayed at a grim airport last week. Reading Kate Atkinson’s latest Brodie had me laughing out loud. It’s a real problem seeing our hero’s on screen but not in the image we’ve created. Brodie, Harry Bosch.
John Thaw’s Morse was perfection though

Overthehills Sun 07-Jul-19 21:35:00

Davis Suchet - Poirot
Kenneth Branagh - Wallander
Ken Stott - Rebus
Joan Hickson - Miss Marple
Brenda Blethyn - Vera

lemongrove Sun 07-Jul-19 21:27:53

I only like Jackson Brodie in the books though, as I pictured him differently?
A new book just out btw.

Iam64 Sun 07-Jul-19 21:14:23

Ted Hastings, quickly followed by Kate and Steve, LOD much missed Sunday night viewing.

Miss Marple
Harry Bosch
Jackson Brodie ( He counts because he's ex police...)

BradfordLass72 Sun 07-Jul-19 20:56:53

Can't get him in TV but DVD - Montalbano

Greyduster Sun 07-Jul-19 20:52:57

My very favourite? Henry Crabbe (Pie in the Sky).
Vera;
George Gently;
Father Brown;
Lewis;
Jimmy Perez.

Mapleleaf Sun 07-Jul-19 20:41:14

Miss Marple
Poirot
Morse/Endeavour
Vera
Lewis
Foyle’s War
Maigret (Rowan Atkinson).
There will be others, I’m sure, but these spring to mind first.

Yes EthelJ, I too was thinking of Shoestring. Wandering around Bristol looking vulnerable and solving crimes while doing a radio show. Think it started in the late 70’s.
Trevor Eve rather reminded me of an old boyfriend of mine but that’s for a different thread...

glammagran Sun 07-Jul-19 20:03:32

[EthelJ] I certainly do! Much less uptight than the character he played in Waking the Dead.

glammagran Sun 07-Jul-19 20:01:38

For me:-

Tom Burke - Cormaran Strike
Andri - (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson/Trapped)
Toby Stephens - Jack Armstrong in Vexed
Sofia Helin as Saga Norén in The Bridge

Peewitt52 Sun 07-Jul-19 19:24:15

Does Gibbs from NC IS count? ?

EthelJ Sun 07-Jul-19 19:20:19

Another one I used to like is Trevor Eve in Shoestring. It was on in the 80s and I don't think it's been repeated at all. Does anyone remember it?

Yangste1007 Sun 07-Jul-19 18:59:02

Zen
Cormoran Strike
Viv Deering
George Gently
Hastings

stiltskin33 Sun 07-Jul-19 18:43:44

Micheal Kitchen every time - Foyles's War
Endeavour
Lewis
Morse

Witchypoo Sun 07-Jul-19 18:39:50

Vera Lewis Father Brown

Sara65 Sun 07-Jul-19 18:38:17

Endeavour and Vera probably favourites, also like Jimmy Perez, and Alan Banks.

Prefer the new Barnaby to the old Barnaby

The Sergeant in Ripper Street is gorgeous

And the absolutely delicious James Hathaway

lindadoughty650 Sun 07-Jul-19 18:37:51

Same as your list BonnieBlooming, plus Luther (Idris Elba) Ken Stott as Rebus is not exactly as my own picture when reading the books, but certainly good enough. I have "Vera" backed up on my recorder looking for a binge day.

GrannyLondon Sun 07-Jul-19 18:33:32

Dinahmo, you beat me to it. Aurelio Zen is my favourite too. I’ve read all Michael Dibdin’s books. Rufus Sewell wasn’t my idea of Zen at first, but he is so lovely I managed to watch it & very good he was too.
Layla, don’t worry about subtitles just enjoy watching Italians I love’em.
I cried when George Gently died.
I also enjoy,
Endeavor, Montalbano, Vera, and The Last Detective.
Would Dixon of Dock Green count?
