I think mine is inspector Morse.
Although I still love Columbo grin

What about yours?

Parklife1. I hadn't read your post before I posted mine! Honestly!! So glad you like Joan Hickson! I used to watch the series with my daughters when they were in their teens. The stories were much darker than the silly frivolous moments we had with Geraldine McEwan. I used to tell the children "When I grow up I am going to be Miss Marple!" I was already getting into my 40s...

Ooooh my favourite relaxation - watching Detective Films!

Recently I was very impressed with Rowan Atkinson's Maigret. He was sensitive, aloof, deeply in love with his beautiful wife (Lucuy Cohu) and the series filled me with the atmosphere of the time and place.
I am a loyal fan of Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox in "Lewis" but must admit the real star is the music by Barrington Pheloung! I adore his music!
I will always see Joan Hickson as the real Miss Marple
Vera is always good and Brenda Blethyn is superb,
but possibly my favourite Detective is Ken Stott as "Rebus".

I liked ( well fancied) Shoestring.

annabanana Sun 07-Jul-19 13:38:22

From the top of my head Vera ('Now that just isn't true is it pet') or Columbo ('Just one more thing').

Parklife1 Sun 07-Jul-19 13:35:15

Rowan Atkinson as Maigret
Joan Hickson as Miss Marple
Shaun Evans
David Suchet
Brenda Blethyn
Neil Dudgeon (John Nettles is wooden)

We love the DI Banks books but Stephen Tompkinson? Oh dear No!

annodomini Sun 07-Jul-19 13:17:46

Tom Burke as Cormoran Strike.

sodapop Sun 07-Jul-19 13:16:37

I didn't like Tompkinson as Banks either, wasn't as he was depicted in the books.
I did like the Lynley series, however the books became quite annoying at the end with the author's constant attempts at dialect.

Dinahmo Sun 07-Jul-19 13:09:46

Aurelio Zen (Rufus Sewell) Only 3 films were made - very sad. The books are brilliant but sadly the author, Michael Dibdin died in 2007 so no more books.

Rebus, Endeavour, Vera, Sergeant Hathaway.

Cold Sun 07-Jul-19 13:07:29

Oooo - such a hard decision!

Andri - (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson/Trapped)
Vera - (Brenda Blethyn)
Strike - (Tom Burke)
Phryne Fisher (Essie Davis/Miss Fisher's Murder mysteries)
Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion/Castle)
Douglas Henshall & Alison O'Donnell (Jimmy Perez/Tosh - Shetland)

pamdixon Sun 07-Jul-19 13:04:56

Montalbano too for me! And Morse

BBbevan Sun 07-Jul-19 12:53:26

Rebus
Vera
Dislike Stephen Tompkinson as Banks. Not my idea of Banks at all

sarahellenwhitney Sun 07-Jul-19 12:49:50

Detective Stabler in Law and Order SVU.wink

annemarg Sun 07-Jul-19 12:35:10

I really liked Inspector Lynley and was so disappointed when they decided to end the series unexpectedly.

sassenach512 Sun 07-Jul-19 12:27:53

Kojak! "who loves ya baby?" ?

Frannytoo Sun 07-Jul-19 12:25:46

For me Inspector Montalbano, I can watch him over and over again as I completely forget the plots.

Hazeld Sun 07-Jul-19 12:18:50

Definitely Vera, Morse, Midsummer Murders and Colombo. Can't beat a bit of Colombo and then there's Frost of course

AyjayF Sun 07-Jul-19 12:18:00

Cagney + Lacey!

adrisco Sun 07-Jul-19 11:54:41

Michael Kitchen as Christopher Foyle in Foyle's War and Douglas Henshall as Jimmy Perez in Shetland .. oh and Mark Williams as Father Brown!

Magi Sun 07-Jul-19 11:34:02

Montalbano!

annifrance Sun 07-Jul-19 11:33:03

Morse, David Suchet, Michael Kitchen, Joan Hickson and Alum Armstrong in New Tricks.

eazybee Sun 07-Jul-19 11:29:19

Fabian of the Yard (who??)
Inspector Foyle
Inspector Wexford
Wallander, either of the two Swedish ones, NOT Kenneth Branagh

Candelle Sun 07-Jul-19 11:24:41

Another vote for Michael Kitchen (Foyle's War) who I feel is very watchable. Every nuance has a meaning.

More episodes, please!
