I won’t be signing it. Both my dad and my MIL are over 75 and both are wealthy. They have absolutely no need of a free licence- £3 a week wouldn’t even register on their accounts. Give it to people of all ages who really need it.

Pension credit is on a sliding scale. People well over the basic PC credit level can get savings credit for incomes considerably more than the basic - and they will still get free licences.

Like others I will not be signing it, it is a very reasonable measure.

I'll pay up and look happy smile

I agree that those who own their own homes pay up too---why not ?

GabriellaG54 Thu 11-Jul-19 18:44:47

Anyone in receipt of pension credit will be eligible to get their rent and council tax paid (if renting) and will not have more than £10k in savings.
Those who own their homes have tens if not hundreds of thousands of pounds behind them, so to speak, and the value of their property will increase by more than £154 per year so they shouldn't moan. You cxn't have it all. Nothing can be guaranteed in perpetuity. Times (and the economy) change and there are many more people stretching a finite budget.
Get real.

Not signed. It's £3pw. Most people could find that.

Squiffy Thu 11-Jul-19 18:20:22

Signed, as I think there will be many over 75s who are only just over the Means Test, so will have to pay.

The licence may only seem to be a small weekly amount, but it's another small amount on top of everything else. The small amounts add up all too easily!

annodomini Thu 11-Jul-19 18:13:01

I don't see why any means testing beyond proof of pension credit should be necessary.

Maggiemaybe Thu 11-Jul-19 17:57:33

From the Age UK website:

Nationally it is estimated that 50% (360,000) couples entitled to Pension Credit are not receiving it. Among single pensioners, 37% (840,000) who should be receiving Pension Credit have not claimed. (Income-related benefits: estimates of take-up 2016/17), DWP published 2018).

It’s to be hoped that this latest change to the TV licence entitlement will result in many more people claiming what they should be getting.

gillybob Thu 11-Jul-19 17:55:23

I haven’t signed either as I agree that everyone but the poorest in society should pay and that includes young people too .

midgey Thu 11-Jul-19 17:41:07

Some over 75s are very wealthy.

Anniebach Thu 11-Jul-19 17:40:57

Don’t understand, if people on pension credit will not have to pay how can the poorest have to pay ? Can you get poorer
than pension credit ?

tessagee Thu 11-Jul-19 17:37:04
