Calling all detectives out there - reuniting a ring...

Thank you, jusnoneed. Will look into this. Very time restricted with work and family. But have a friend who works in a library which could offer a solution, if she is willing to get involved in this little project...

If you can go to the area local Library you may be able to view the electoral register and find the address and get her surname. It's hard to find someone with no surname.

Thanks a lot Opal and NannaandGrampy. I looked into this before, and you have to pay. The ring is not expensive....l was hoping a good deed could be inexpensive and quick.

Need people from that programme - heir hunters - don’t l. They would sort it in a flash....

Great minds Opal lol

Try the census ? Its online I think and free to check - that will give you her surname .

If you were really keen then Id go onto something like Ancestry.co.uk , and search for her marriage and birth certificates ?

You could check the census for 1991, and from that get her surname. Then do some digging for birth and marriage certificates, and trace her son from there.

Thanks a lot. Her name was Rose. She lived at number 3 Portland Gardens, in Harringay, London. She was married, but sadly her husband had died. She had a lovely son. She moved to crouch end. It was a long time ago. 1990’s but, had the sofa a while, and then a baby and...got busy. But kept wondering about the ring, and did go back and knock on the door of new owner, but no luck.

Songbirds as long as you don't think it would compromise your own privacy you could post her first name and where you were living when you bought it on here.

There are a number of avenues you could try.
Facebook. Post a short message giving her first name, area in which she lived when you knew her and her age at that time. Do not write anything about the ring. Just ask that anyone who recognises your description to get in touch...maybe use a new email address just for that purpose.
Ask local authority/social services if they have any details if ladies moving into care at the time you state she moves. Tell them about the ring, otherwise they may be reluctant to help.
Ring local care homes to determine if she moved there.
Can you describe her looks and build at the time of you knowing her?
Did she have an accent?
Any little things you remember could be part of the jigsaw.
Lots of luck
