Ancient telly programmes

Anyone remember 'Meet the penguins' in the 1950s...?. cardboard cutouts moved on sticks against a snowy mountain backdrop.... all to the theme tune of 'Don't you forget to wash your dirty beak......or you won't go to snowland 'long o' we' That really was a budget BBC programme

All these memories. I remember Bronco, another cowboy programme. Bronco Lane as I recall. I still remember lots of the theme tunes to these programmes.

I loved the Persuaders but my parents thought it was too old for me, if they went out for the evening when it was on, watched it.

Most of the girls in my class liked Roger Moore, I preferred Tony Curtis!

Robert Horton creaked when he walked - all that leather. He was lovely.

Oh yes I Love Lucy was great. Also later I liked Rhoda.

I love Lucy with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez, I loved that , I would watch Quatermass from behind the sofa, loved The Army Game, and I was in love with Robert Horton, who played the scout in Wagon Train, also loved little Joe in Wagon Train ,

I loved 'Out of the unknown', especially the spooky music at the beginning. Also, Mystery and Imagination, introduced by David Buck, who I fancied. I still love Sci Fi/weird stuff.

Thanks KatyK and everyone who answered. I never knew her name but it was Thank your Lucky Stars not Juke Box Jury which I also watched fervently. It must have been hard if they were on simultaneously.

I can remember not wanting to miss an episode of Compact or Emergency Ward 10.
No wonder I didn't do well in exams.

Sorry to be pedantic but Janice Nicholls (oil give it foive) was on Thank Your Lucky Stars. I saw it being recorded a couple of times.

I remember so many programmes mentioned, although not quite old enough for Muffin the mule.

I'm another who remembers The Cedar Tree, set around the 1930s I think. Does anyone remember The Human Jungle? it starred Herbert Lom as a psychiatrist. Also a show called Mystery and Imagination, it was on late on Sunday night and was about ghostly/scary tales. I was allowed to stay up late to watch and I can remember being so spooked, I would wrap the blankets round me in bed and just leave a hole to breathe through

I got it wrong, it was 77 Sunset Strip that had Ephram Zimbalist Junior and Cookie, not Route 66, although there was a Route 66 show.

I remember, in the 50s, BBC used to close down, after children's television, for an hour, unless Test Cricket was on. Again, my brain may be remiss. I think it was so children did their homework. I am sure someone can put me right.

The Flame Trees of Thika has recently been on Talking Pictures. I re-watched it and it was just as good second time round.

Might be worth checking on BBC i player catch up, Quatermass was on the archive category. We watched that again, too, and laughed all the way through it. it was so stagey.

My mum used to listen to Mrs Dale’s Diary on the radio, which I think later became The Dales and was then followed by Waggoner’s Walk (I think). I vaguely remember being both scared and fascinated by A for Andromeda and am pleased to hear some of you others remember it! My first crush was the gorgeous Rowdy Yates (Clint Eastwood) - I also seem to remember admiring Little Joe in Bonanza. I vaguely remember a TV series called The Newcomers. Is anyone here old enough to remember something called Life with the Lyons? I think that is what is was called - my parents used to like it. Dad used to listen to Sing Something Simple which was on a Sunday afternoon/early evening. Even at my very young age, it made me cringe! Thanks for a great thread, so many memories.

Tales of the Unexpected. Some were stupid, but a few really frightened me.

Green Acres, The Hillbilly Family, The Partridge Family, Bewitched, and my absolute fave, The Monkees! Oh and Alias Smith and Jones. Cried when the actor, Pete Duel, killed himself. Bonanza. High Chapparal. Think I watched too much TV!

Quatermass terrified me. I had to go to my room to avoid it. I loved The Cedar Tree serial.

I remember it, my in-laws used to watch it when I first knew them, I think it was on at lunch time, also at lunchtime, they used to watch Crown Court
